SoCal Lutherans

SoCal Lutherans Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Q***r, Questioning, and Allied Lutheran Christians in Southern California God is love! All people.

"God LOVES you and the ones you LOVE!"

This is the message of SoCalLutherans and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The real message of the gospel is that Christian faith is a gift of love- not hatred, joy- not dread, hope- not defeat. God hates no one, since God made us as we are! If you are not familiar with Lutheran Christians, it is important that you realize: we are not part of the

“religious right”. We believe God reaches out to us to bring us into relationship with God. God’s grace is a free gift to all people who wish to receive it. Including the beloved children of God who are gay, le***an, bisexual, transgender, questioning, q***r, curious…even straight! Welcoming churches in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America are known as Reconciling in Christ. What this means is these churches wish to reconcile people who have been kicked out, shamed or ostracized from church experiences because of their sexual orientation or gender identification. We believe we are all members of God’s family, and those of us who have been made to feel “less than” can now be reconciled with God’s family in these churches. SoCalLutherans.com is the website of the Los Angeles chapter of Reconciling Works, a national organization which is working for the full inclusion of le***an, g**s, bisexuals and transgender person into the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

God's inclusive love has always been bigger than bullying and hate. We will not be distracted by familiar bullying, but continue to follow Christ in embracing our trans, non-binary, and gender expansive siblings in the fullness of who they are. Consider joining us by responding to hate by giving to ReconcilingWorks 's Mutual Aid Fund.

In this time of uncertainty for many LGBTQIA+ Americans, ReconcilingWorks Board of Directors has approved the creation of a mutual aid fund. If you would like to learn more about this please visit the link below for more information.

Happy National Coming Out Day! Share a photo of your church's rainbow flag in the comments!

Today is National Coming OUT Day! Let us celebrate the ways in which we express our sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions, and can share with others our true and authentic selves. And for those who are unable to safely come out, know that you are seen and loved. Let this be a day to share with others more about who you are!

SoCal Lutherans and the Southwest California Synod are proud to present the 2023 Clarence Anderson Award for Peace and Justice to Rev. Dr. Barbara Lundblad and Rev. Dr. Gladys Moore! They have both worked out-front and behind-the-scenes to share God's inclusive love with LGBTQ leaders and students. We celebrate the work of the Holy Spirit in their ministries!

We are saddened to learn of the death of one of our most vibrant and supportive friends, Shirley Egertson. She advocated for LBGT inclusion at the highest levels and participated in many pride celebrations with our chapter. Her allyship was truly a model for Lutherans everywhere. We give thanks to God for her joyful tenacity to make the church a more inclusive place and commend her to God's eternal love. 🌈

A memorial will be held Saturday, April 6th, at 2:00 p.m., at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 West Avenida de Los Arboles, Thousand Oaks, CA.

Shirley Egertson and son Greg graced our parade contingent with plenty of pizzaz, a reminder that the road to inclusion isn't always easy....but it will be fabulous!
