Adventist Forum, publishers of SPECTRUM and spectrummagazine.org, is an independent non-profit 501(c)(3) organization committed to promoting community through conversation in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The Los Angeles Chapter meets once a month in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd on the campus of Glendale City Seventh-day Adventist Church. The Los Angeles Chapter of the Adventist Forum will meet on Saturday, September 28, 2019, 3:00 pm, Chapel of the Good Shepherd, Glendale City Church.

The Speaker is Gilbert M. Valentine, PhD, recently retired Professor of Leadership & Administration, La Sierra University, School of Education. He will be addressing the topic of his recent book, "The Struggle for the Prophetic Heritage, (Issues in the Conflict for the Control of the Ellen G. White Publications, l930-l939)." The Los Angeles Chapter of the Adventist Forum will meet on Sabbath, June 22, 2019 at 3pm in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd on Isabel Street. The speaker is Dr. Ed Sammons, Senior Pastor, Lancaster Adventist Church. Dr. Simmons is a native of Wales and a graduate of Newbold College, Andrews University and Fuller Theological Seminary (D.Min.). The title of his presentation is, "Church in the Age of Instagram- What Young People Think About Faith and Why it Matters." All are welcome.

March 23: Dr. Fritz Guy, recently retired Research Professor of Philosophical Theology at La Sierra University, will present “Catching Up With Ellen”, highlighting Ellen White’s encouragement of progressive theological (as well as practical) thinking, a fact that is too often overlooked.

Come and experience a double blessing as the Forum hosts two guest speakers this month! Feb. 16 (next Sabbath): Dr. Timothy Golden, Professor of History & Philosophy at Walla Walla University (and presenter at The One Project in Redlands, Feb. 17-19) will be addressing our L.A. Forum. Then additionally, on Feb. 23, Dr. Graham Stacey, professor at Loma Linda University and Avondale College, will be speaking the following week, topics to be announced.

L.A. Forum, January 26, 3 p.m.: Michael Scofield, well-known Systems Analyst and Consultant in Data Management, Lecturer, and Mbr., LLU Faculty, will speak on “The Gap Between Adventist Expression and Effective Communication.” The presentation will explore “a wide cultural gap between traditional Adventist expression ... (writing, preaching, teaching, etc.), and the majority of the secular audience.... We will explore how we can narrow that gap.” All are welcome.

We regret to announce the passing of Sam Silvestri on Saturday, October 6, a faithful and longtime member of City Church. Many of you remember Sam as the deacon with the keys, kind words, and smile, opening and closing every Sabbath. Condolances to his wife and family.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 11, 3:00 pm, Forest Lawn Cemetery, Hollywood Hills.
