🏜️Arizona Gives Day has quite a tradition here in the Grand Canyon State. The Salvation Army does too. Commissioner William A. McIntyre trekked to Arizona to serve others back in 1893!

This was the beginning of critical assistance in AZ that has spanned every war and natural disaster of the last century in America.

We never stopped. The Salvation Army makes a difference every day in every zip code in Arizona. From metro to rural, compassionate folks make it possible to serve as we are called, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in..."📖

Cheers to 25 years of impact! 🎉 BHHS Legacy Foundation has been instrumental in funding our corps for years, including a generous financial gift to help renovate the building for a new beginning in 2019.

Recently, the Glendale Corps honored Howard “Mac” McKenna, who passed away in January. He was the first chairperson of the Glendale Corps’ Advisory Board and a founding board member of BHHS.

To celebrate Howard and BHHS Legacy Foundation’s 25th anniversary – the foundation presented the Army with a generous gift of $25,000 to help feed the hungry in the community.

This act of kindness could supply around 5,000 meals, but Glendale provided over 61,000 meals last year through its food pantry, community meals, etc., so the need is still great.

Happy 87th National Donut Day Eve! ❤️🍩❤️Have you ever made a recipe from the front lines of WWI? Here's your chance to taste history.🇺🇸

National Donut Day dates back to 1917, when Salvation Army volunteer officers traveled to France to set up field bases near the front lines of World War I. In makeshift huts, these officers, who became known as Donut Lassies, provided soldiers with vital supplies, spiritual and emotional support, and, of course, freshly fried donuts.

These sweet treats became a symbol of comfort and a morale booster for soldiers, and the Donut Lassies are often credited with popularizing the donut in the United States when the troops returned home.

This annual celebration of the courage to do good dates back to 1938 when The Salvation Army of Chicago created the holiday as a way to recognize the work the Donut Lassies did and to raise funds to help those in need during the Great Depression.

Turns out donuts & doing good have always gone hand in hand.🫶

Thank you to our long-time supporters, Bashas' Supermarkets, for letting our team help judge the delicious entries in their 10th Annual Donut Flavor Craze contest. We had a blast tasting so many creative and tasty donuts! 🍩

Continuing the tradition, this National Donut Day, Friday, June 6, Bashas’ is generously donating 10% of all donut sales from its Arizona bakeries to The Salvation Army.

Be sure to stop by your local Bashas’ to try the winning donut and help support neighbors in need.

We are so happy to share, an amazing group of K-3rd graders at Desert Spirit School collected nearly 3,000 non-perishable food items to donate to our corps!
