9:00 AM Service Discussion Scheduled for June 14

For the last year, the first Sunday of each month has been a ‘Children’s Sunday’ during the 9:00 o’clock hour. On most of those Sundays, members of the Youth Choir have, in addition to singing, provided a corps of greeters, lay readers, intercessors, and altar setting helpers. The response to this initiative has been generally positive.

Your liturgical leadership team (clergy and music director) have been in discussion about how to move forward with this initiative in a way that, on each Sunday of a month, the 9:00 AM service would be shaped and designed to be more accessible to those ages 12 and under. As we look toward the fall, we are praying about how best to balance the needs and desires of those of all ages who normally worship during the 9:00 AM service.

To help with that, a brief overview of this will be presented during the homily at 9:00 this morning, and questions (or seeds) will be planted for reflection. Next Sunday, June 14th, in place of the 9:00 AM service, a facilitated discussion will be held in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, aimed at drawing out the fruit of those questions so that we can be as aware as possible of the needs and desires of those who normally worship at that time.

This exercise will not be one in ‘liturgical design by committee.’ Instead it will be a time when we try to name the values particular to that service, and ask how we can honor those, and offer a service that is accessible and welcoming to children. The 8:00 (Rite I) and 11:00 (Rite II) services will be held as usual, for those who want to attend a celebration of the Eucharist that day, and still be part of the discussion.

Whether you are an occasional or frequent 9:00 AM service attendee, please come this Sunday and next to take part in these important opportunities for discussion and discernment.

Yesterday marked the official 2026 season finale for our incredible choir! 🎶

As always, we are in absolute awe of their talent, dedication, and the beautiful spirit they bring to our liturgy every single week. While we will miss their voices during the summer hiatus, we are already counting down the weeks until September!

Please join us in the comments in showering our choir members and music director with love and gratitude for a wonderful season! 👇✨

This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, and at the 11 AM service our Parish Choir will sing C.V. Stanford's Communion Service in C & F. This has been our custom for the last several years, as a meaningful way to conclude the choir year. Following this service, we will have a special coffee hour in honor of the choir and their work over this past year. Please join us!

Today we honored the lives of our fallen service members with our Glendale Community.

Tomorrow is Pentecost Sunday! We will celebrate the Holy Spirit at our services at 8, 9 and 11. Be sure to wear red to symbolize the “tongues of fire” spoken about in the second chapter of Acts. At 11 AM, the Parish Choir will sing an anthem by the same name, and Dr. Robertson will close the service with Durufle’s Chorale and Variations on the tune “Veni Creator Spiritus”. This is also a special Sunday because we will have a baptism at the 9 AM service and renew our own baptismal vows at the others. See you in church!

Our Choir Year is coming quickly to a close! Over the last few weeks, the Youth Choir sang their final service and the Bell Choir played their final service. On May 31, the Parish Choir will close the choir year on Trinity Sunday by singing Charles Villiers Stanford's Communion Service in C & F, a beautiful way to bring the sung parts of the mass to a higher level. Instead of using hymnal versions for the Gloria, Sanctus, etc, we will use this grand arrangement specifically written by Stanford for choir and organ. We will also sing some powerful hymns circling around the meaning of the Trinity. Please plan to join us on May 31st for that at 11 AM!

Additionally, be sure to check out the June Chimes when it comes out for information about all the Summer music activities, including two opportunities to learn about how I select music for worship (hymns, choral, and organ music) and two Sundays for Summer Choir participation by anyone interested. There is also the possibility of another mid-Summer event that is being finalized at this time. Stay tuned!
