In 1988, Jackie, the only daughter of Nerio and Zenny Katigbak was diagnosed with breast cancer. Zenny was very new in the charismatic renewal at the time but even then knew that there was a purpose for what was happening to their family. Little did they know, however, how big that purpose was! The Lord had used that illness to begin what is now the Heart of Jesus Prayer Community. After Jackie wa
s healed by the Lord from cancer, the Katigbaks held a prayer meeting in their home as a thanksgiving to Him for her healing. Their intention was to have that one prayer meeting only. Those in attendance were so touched, they requested the Katigbaks to hold another one. These times of prayer and fellowship became more frequent. What started as one evening of thanksgiving prayer became once a month, to every other week, to once a week. It became very apparent that their apartment was going to be too small for this growing gathering. Zenny approached Monsignor Frilot, then Pastor of Incarnation Church, requesting a space in the parish for the group to meet. He allowed us to meet in St. Michael’s Hall underneath the church. As more and more people were brought by the Lord to this place, the meetings were moved to the school auditorium and have been there ever since! The Lord is truly amazing! He has used each one of our members to bring His love to a world which needs Him so desperately. He has used the God-given talents of each member whether those talents were in music, teaching, intercession, cooking, or just listening to bring many people to Him. Since 1989 the HOJ Community has experienced growth and pruning, trials and victories, tears and joy. The Lord has sustained us all these years and we look forward in hope, joy, and excitement for His plans for His community in the years to come.
