Women of North Shore Congregation Israel

We are affiliated with WRJ, Women of Reform Judaism.

The Women of North Shore Congregation Israel (aka WNSCI / Sisterhood) warmly welcome participation of women of all ages, and appreciate varied time commitments, lifestyles and interests. The mission of Women of North Shore Congregation Israel is:

* To uphold and support the synagogue in all its aims, goals and activities, and to be a force for unity within the synagogue and the Jewish community.

* To create warmth and hospitality that will stimulate a broader interest and larger participation in all synagogue activities.

* To build within Jewish women, through an enriched understanding of Judaism, a security in the knowledge of their heritage and inspire them to assume their responsibility in the home, the synagogue and the community.

* To be an integral part of Jewish communal life by being informed, sensitive and responsive to its needs, thereby giving expression to the spirit of Judaism.

Knitting Hearts Together for Good is an interfaith knitting group started by Glencoe Union Church. They make hand-crafted items for those in need. The group meets twice a month at various North Shore congregations and beginners are welcome! NSCI will be hosting the group for the first time on Monday, May 11th, 4:00-6:00 pm in the Family Room. Anyone who is interested is welcome to stop by to check it out. No knitting experience is necessary.

WNSCI will be joining with women all over North America for the Women of Reform Judaism Day of Action on April 12th. This is a chance for us to take meaningful action on issues we care deeply about. We'll be volunteering with NSCI's Feed the Hungry project, making lunches to be delivered to organizations that serve the unhoused. And we'll be visiting one of the organizations we serve to learn about the critical work they do in our community. WNSCI will be acting locally while joining a powerful movement of WRJ women across North America who are showing up, taking action, and making a visible difference ... together. HIGHLIGHTS OF LATKES AND VODKAS
The Chanukah season was celebrated by almost 50 women who joined together to enjoy delicious latkes, brisket and desserts. Many brought their own menorahs to light with the group and say the blessings together. The event was Co-hosted by WNSCI and the Youth and Family Community Committee (YFCC).
Everyone went around the table and shared stories of their favorite menorah and sampled vodka cocktails made by Peggy Rubenstein. Thanks to Peggy and her co-chair Ann Dubois.
And a very special thanks to the participants who brought in hundreds of dollars of gift cards that will be donated to the New Trier Food Pantry.

The WNSCI Women's Retreat has become a highlight of the year. Gather with other NSCI women of all ages and stages for a spiritual, reflective retreat, led by Rabbi Greene. We’ll mark Shabbat and create community with interactive learning, meaning, and fun.

Registration is $218, which includes 5 meals and all programming and materials. The WNSCI discounted hotel rate is $119 per night (available through January 9th). Once you register for the event you'll receive a confirmation email with the link to reserve your hotel room.

SHOP FOR ISRAEL
Support the Israel Museum Trunk Show
Sunday, November 16th at NSCI
NSCI is proud to be the only venue in Chicagoland, and the entire Midwest to present this Trunk Show.
The Israel Museum in Jerusalem is bringing their gift shop to us. Just in time for Chanukah, they will be featuring their unique array of menorahs and dreidels, ritual items, jewelry, and sterling silver, for all tastes! The Israeli people and their cultural institutions are in need of our support. Purchases will benefit Israeli artists and the larger Jewish community.

The Trunk Show will run from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm for NSCI congregants ONLY; members of the public will be invited to shop the show from 12:00–3:00 pm.
