If we realize the emptiness of our mind, we will realize the emptiness of everything. In our retreat June 19-24, Gen Samten will share teachings from How to Understand the Mind to help lead meditators to a clear understanding of emptiness, one of Buddha’s most profound teachings.

In our weekend retreat “Healing with Every Breath,” meditators had an opportunity to take a deep dive into teachings on the time-tested Buddhist practice of Taking and Giving. Kelsang Gechog taught this ancient meditation practice where we imagine freeing others of their suffering and giving them lasting happiness and peace of mind— all through the power of our breath!

This practice helps us to balance our mind, reducing self-obsessed tendencies and creating causes for us to be of great benefit to others in the future.

Meditators were also able to take advantage of the great weather we enjoyed over the weekend, hiking our nature trails or hopping on a blanket in the grass to enjoy the sunshine in between sessions. If you’d like to stop by and enjoy for yourself, we have extended open hours on Memorial Weekend. Our grounds and trails will be open from 9-7 every day, with our shop, cafe, and Temple open for extended hours. Full details are on our website. ☀️🌸🍹

Cristicism can be our friend. By reframing hurtful words as opportunities for growth, we can develop compassion for those who challenge us, transforming pain into spritual develepment.

In our workshop on the Power of Loving Kindness, Kelsang Rak-ma led us through Buddhist teachings and meditations that help to grow our love for all living beings. We reflected on how everything that we have, from the food that we eat to the clothes that we wear to the roads that we drive on, comes from the kindness of others.

And because it was Mother’s Day weekend, we of course spent time contemplating Buddha’s teaching that we should view all living beings as our kind mothers! Rak-ma reminded us that our very existence is due to the kindness of others, and she guided meditations that cultivated a sense of warmth in our heart centers.

Last weekend, the New Kadampa Tradition held its first ever training for Kadampa managers right here at KMC New York. Around 70 current and aspiring managers gathered for two days of hands-on training, covering many practical aspects of running a meditation center and helping the dharma continue to flourish.

All Kadampa centers are run entirely by the kindness of volunteers. Those who attended training delighted in connecting with other managers from around the country (and a few who journeyed from abroad!) with a shared vision of bringing Buddha’s teachings to anyone looking to cultivate inner peace.
