Hello everyone and peace!
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus entrusts his mission to the Twelve and sends them out to proclaim the Kingdom of Heaven. The signs of God’s kingdom are made visible through acts of healing, compassion, and liberation—the same works Jesus himself had been performing. The disciples are now called to continue this ministry, marking an important transition from Jesus’ public ministry to the mission of the community of believers.
Matthew highlights the significance of the Twelve by listing each of them by name. Their number recalls the twelve tribes of Israel, emphasizing the continuity between God’s covenant with Israel and the mission of the Church. Matthew also refers to them as “apostles,” a word that means “those who are sent,” underscoring their role as messengers of the Good News.
This Sunday’s Gospel reminds us that the mission Jesus gave to the apostles did not end with them. The Church continues Christ’s presence in the world, carrying forward his work of proclaiming God’s love and bringing hope to those in need. As members of the Church, each of us is called to share in this mission through our words, actions, and witness to the Gospel.
