Interfaith Community of Long Island

Interfaith Community of Long Island The Interfaith Community of Long Island is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing education

The Interfaith Community believes that today's families can successfully include two religions in their households. Our organization is a unique institution responding to the needs of such families. Today, over a quarter of all American marriages are between people from different religious backgrounds. For couples who do not wish to choose one partner’s tradition, the normal option is to do nothin

g about religion or to find that it is a source of conflict. The Long Island Interfaith Community has specifically focused on serving Jewish-Christian families. The intermarriage issue is particularly powerful in the Jewish community where large numbers (perhaps as many as 50%) of Jews are now marrying people from other backgrounds, primarily Christian.

NEW MEMBER SPOTLIGHT🌟🌟

The Thomas Family

Ellie Thomas was apart of the toddler IFC class during the 2023-2024 school year, and will be entering kindergarten in September!

Questions for Alexandra Thomas:

Q: Can you tell us a little about your family?
I was raised Jewish and my husband was raised Lutheran Protestant. We have a little girl who is going to be 5 years old who we have always planned on raising to be interfaith with a blend of both of our faiths.

Q: What were you hoping to get out of IFC?
A good religious education for our child, a community that we can belong in, support from families in a similar situation.

Q: Was there anything that surprised you about IFC?
How many families were enrolled and how many similarities between the faiths that I had never realized before.

If IFC sounds like something for your family, join us at the Open House on September 15 to meet our faith leaders, religious education teachers, and other families like yours!
