Christ has Ascended!

We're writing to thank you for your kindness.

Because of your great generosity, we've been able to collect $12,998.49 for the clergy fund and to help Fr. Boris Gladyshev in Buenos Aires.

Thank you for caring so very deeply for Fr. Boris and ROCOR's other truly heroic priests. The level of dedication our clergy show time and again are truly incredible.

If you're still reading, may we ask you to say a quick prayer for Alexander?

He's the husband of someone who loves our Church as deeply as you do. Her name is Olga. She wrote to say that Alexander is going to have massive brain surgery for cancer on Monday.

Please say a prayer for him. Your prayers, especially, joined with the prayers of others, are powerful.

Thank you again.

Joyous feast of the Lord's Ascension!
Съ праздникомъ Вознесенiя Господня!

Ascension is one of the most important feast days of the Church.
On this day, the visible earthly presence of Christ gives way to His invisible presence in the Church.

A crucial part of the "message" of the feast (which you can see in liturgical texts) is that Christ has not left the world, but abides in it in the Holy Spirit.

(Otherwise, it would be too sad of a feast...)

In case you can't make it to church today, here's the troparion:

"Thou hast ascended in glory, O Christ our God, having gladdened Thy disciples with the promise of the Holy Spirit; and they were assured by the blessing that Thou art the Son of God, the Redeemer of the world."

May the Lord bless you!

BUILDING A PARISH NOBODY CAN BREAK

Christ is Risen!!!!

"Make yourself irreplaceable" is the career advice every professional growth guru loves to give. And honestly? It works great, until it doesn't.

In a lot of ROCOR parishes, there's a small handful of people doing everything:

Singing, baking prosphoras, cleaning, cooking, mowing, fixing. They're everywhere, all the time.

It's beautiful and a little terrifying at the same time.

Then there's Fr. Boris Gladyshev in Buenos Aires. He looked at that setup and thought:

“What happens when those people aren't around anymore?”

So he did something different. Matushka Ksenia started training new singers. Fr. Boris taught others to bake prosphora. They found someone to clean the church regularly.

He's not building a one-man show. He's building something that lasts.

He actually told me that his goal is to make himself ultimately dispensable. So when the next priest comes, he has good people he can depend on.

Not that he’s planning to leave. He’s in it for the long (and sometimes painful) haul.

That same thinking is exactly why the Fund for Assistance to ROCOR exists ‒ to make sure parishes like Fr. Boris' have the support they need to keep growing, no matter what comes their way.

And here's the best part ‒ 100% of your donation goes directly to the cause. Every single dollar.

Won’t you, please, help Fr. Boris with a gift today? A gift of any size will go a long way for the family of three.

- $100 will cover meals for a week
- $250 will pay for Fr. Boris' son's school for the rest of the year
- $500 will cover half their monthly rent

And if we’re blessed to raise more than Fr. Boris needs, your gift will help even more clergy when they are in a tight spot.

But back to your donations and tough situations...

Your donations to the Fund for Assistance to ROCOR go directly to clergy like Fr. Boris, families who are holding the Church together in places most of us will never visit. And 100% of what you give goes straight to the cause, no overhead taking a bite out of your generosity.

HOW TO TURN 5 INTO 40Christ is Risen!!!!“You won’t leave us, too, will you?” Fr. Boris Gladyshev’s parishioners ask this...

HOW TO TURN 5 INTO 40

Christ is Risen!!!!

“You won’t leave us, too, will you?”

Fr. Boris Gladyshev’s parishioners ask this question a lot.

And they have very good reasons.

You see, right now, Argentina's inflation is running at 33% annually. But the real problem is that inflation in dollar terms has reached almost 150% over the past two years.

That means that even expenses measured in dollars ‒ rent, groceries, utilities, and medical bills ‒ have become dramatically more expensive.

But the scary thing is, this is considered “a stable economic situation”... with dozens of families moving from Argentina to Brazil in search of an easier (and cheaper) life, the parish is rightfully scared that Fr. Boris is finally going to say: enough.

The parish of Holy Resurrection in Buenos Aires has endured many losses in recent years. A painful schism that wrenched the once tight community apart after the Reunification in 2007… The clergy who came and left because their families couldn’t endure the poverty… The shrinking Orthodox population…

In the recent few years, the nun who was choir director/prosphora baker/singer/cleaner/vestments maker had to go back to Russia to take care of her aged parents. Some parishioners left the country. Loss became normal, if just as painful.

In fact, it seems like something short of a miracle that Fr. Boris and his family of three (Matushka Ksenia and 11 year-old son Luka) have stayed here for a whole 12 years.

A decade of poverty and pain, definitely.

But also of God-pleasing service.

“We think of it as our mission,” Fr. Boris says.

- The parish has exploded from five to around 40 attendants on a Sunday. More and more locals are coming.
- The service is now being officiated not just in Slavonic, but also Spanish.
- The choir is growing.
- A modest potluck miraculously feeds parishioners on Sundays.

Fr. Boris’ and Mat. Ksenia’s faces glow with joy as they talk about the growth of their parish.

It’s like a dead person who is coming back to life, they say.

So, no. Despite all the difficulties and poverty (yes, the Gladyshevs are among the 50% of Argentines living below the poverty line), they are planning to stay.

That kind of perseverance is worth protecting.

Won’t you, please, help Fr. Boris with a gift today? A gift of any size will go a long way for the family of three.

- $100 will cover meals for a week
- $250 will pay for Fr. Boris's son's school for the rest of the year
- $500 will cover half their monthly rent
- But if you only have $5?

Then your mite will join other mites and together, will become mighty. (Sorry, we obviously can't resist a pun...)

And if we’re blessed to raise more than Fr. Boris needs, your gift will help even more clergy when they are in a tight spot.

THIS PRIEST REDEFINES WHAT "ROUGH" MEANS

Christ is Risen!!!!

Here's a thought: sometimes the thing you think is a disaster is actually victory in disguise.

Fr. Boris Gladyshev knows this better than most. He's the only ROCOR priest in all of Argentina, serving a community that has weathered decades of painful schism.

Not only is he the only priest, he also doesn’t get paid for what he does by his parish. Because the last time the parish tried collecting money and did everything they could, they came up with 6,497 Argentine pesos.

Sounds like a lot, except…

…that makes U.S. $5...

That’s not because people don’t care, aren’t generous, or think it’s your job to support their priest, no.

Right now, Argentina's inflation is running at 33% annually. That means rent, groceries, utilities, and medical bills all climb by roughly 30% every single month.

On a $1,750 monthly stipend, that math gets uncomfortable fast. $1,100 goes straight to rent and utilities. The rest covers food, clothes, and doctor visits for a family of three.

That sounds rough. And honestly, it is.

But here's where it gets interesting.

Four years ago, Argentina's inflation was sitting at 200% annually. So when Fr. Boris talks about the current situation, he doesn't complain. He actually said something on a recent Zoom call that stopped us cold:

"If only we'd known that when the situation was really bad, it was actually really good."

Read that again.

The man is living in genuinely difficult circumstances and calling it a cakewalk compared to before. That's not denial. That's hard-earned perspective, the kind that only comes from walking through something truly brutal and coming out the other side still standing, still serving, still grateful.

And the parish? Wait till we post again tomorrow to tell you just how Fr. Boris has turned things around in the Holy Resurrection community!

That kind of faith is worth protecting.

Won’t you, please, help today? The truth is, there are lots of ROCOR priests like Fr. Boris out there. Quietly serving their parish and quietly suffering.

We’re hoping to raise $9.7K – to help Fr. Boris and other clergymen like him. So these quiet heroes get the support they so desperately need.

Greetings to all Orthodox women on the Sunday of the Holy Myrrhbearers!

Всѣхъ православныхъ женщинъ поздравляемъ съ недѣлей святыхъ Женъ-Мѵроносицъ!

"Arriving at Thy tomb and seeing the seals of the sepulchre, yet failing to find Thine all-pure body, the myrrh-bearing women came with haste, lamenting and saying: ‘Who hath stolen our Hope? Who hath taken the Dead One, naked and embalmed with myrrh, the only consolation of His Mother? O how hath He died Who hath given life to the dead? How hath He been buried Who hath made hades captive? Yet rise of Thine own power, O Saviour, on the third day, as Thou hast said, Who savest our souls.’"
