We believe changing the world starts with changing ourselves. Changing ourselves begins with Christ. In January of 2021, I gathered a group of dear friends and prayer warriors to pray and fast with me about what God might be calling me to do next. I told God I was all in. I would go anywhere He asked. Two things repeatedly came to me that month: I was called to be a pastor, and I love Glen Burnie.
My conviction grew that I was called to pastor in Glen Burnie. A seed cracked open and began to sprout: What if I followed God into something absolutely crazy? What if I combined what I knew about teaching, learning, and brain development with what I knew about God and Scripture? What if instead of simply listening to a sermon, people came each Sunday and interacted, touched, and tasted Scripture? What if instead of using the church building as an office mainly used to prepare for the Sunday service, we made the church building a place for the community with after school programs, community development, and career preparation? Thus, the Table at Glen Burnie was formed. The Table at Glen Burnie is a different type of church model. First, we will practice flipped learning. Flipped learning is the idea that the lecture (or sermon) can be watched at any time, but the problem solving and interaction (i.e. small groups, application of sermons, scripture study) should happen with others on a Sunday morning. Eventually, sermons will be released Monday to watch at any time during the week. On Sundays, we will gather to apply the sermon to our lives, worship, study, and so much more. Second, once we have a church building, our goal will be to make the building useful for the community i.e. a type of community development center.
