Biltmore loves to partner with others. One of our partnerships is with a local elementary school. At the end of the school year, staff have the responsibility of clearing out the supply room. The school donates excess supplies like paper, notebooks and pencils to Biltmore for our Backpack Giveaway in August. In return, Biltmore purchases from a wish list of items that the school provides for supplies that it can use in classes such as science and art. A win-win for both. Thanks and Happy Summer!

Everyone who adds food to our Blessings Box is truly appreciated. Among them is someone who can’t make it to the Box because he’s the resident of a nursing home. But he’s come up with a way to support us that’s quite unique. His medical plan provides an allotment for nonprescription medications and personal care items. At times when he's under the maximum, he stocks up on supplies—like soap and toothpaste. When his supply of extras grows beyond what he can use, he shares his excess with others in our Blessings Box. We love our visits with him!

The Biltmore Clothes Closet serves a diverse community. On Saturdays it’s common to hear multiple languages being spoken as shoppers fill the aisles looking for free clothes. There are challenges communicating as most of our volunteers speak English only. Translation apps are helpful, but there’s also nodding our heads and smiling and pointing. And there’s a universal language that everyone understands and that’s love. We don’t just give away clothes—we give love and respect to all.

Vangie Hendrickson from the RVA Hope Center will be the speaker at our Fellowship with Friends Lunch on Tuesday, June 9 at 11:30 am. First we'll serve a meal of rotisserie chicken with stuffing, gravy, broccoli and strawberry shortcake. Then we'll hear from Vangie. Everyone welcome. Meal is free. No reservations needed.
