“Many Christians today seem to misunderstand the apostle Paul’s warning in Colossians 2:8: “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition.” The truth is, the Bible—interpreted rightly—is no more against philosophy than it is against religion. The Bible is against vain philosophy. Likewise, the Bible is not opposed to religion per se, but only against vain religion (James 1:26-27).

In Colossians 2:8, Paul is not speaking about philosophy in general, but about a particular philosophy that was apparently influencing the church at Colossae, which is usually understood as an early form of Gnosticism. This is indicated by Paul’s use of a definite article (in the original Greek), which should be translated “the philosophy” or “this philosophy.” So Paul was referring to this particular Gnostic-like philosophy that had invaded the church in Colossae—a philosophy that involved legalism, mysticism, and asceticism (all of which are antithetical to Christianity)—and not to all philosophy. God places no premium on ignorance or shallow thinking (see Matthew 22:37; Acts 17:17,28,34; Philippians 1:16; Titus 1:12; 1 Peter 3:15). An awareness of the various philosophical disciplines can equip Christians to argue against anti-Christian philosophies (Acts 17:22-31) and use philosophical tools in proving the truth of Christianity.”

THE PROPHET JONAH & THE ECLIPSE OF ANCIENT NINEVEH - In the ancient world, and especially in ancient Assyria, astronomical events were often omens of dire warning. Most people know the Old Testament prophet Jonah as the prophet who was swallowed by a great fish (a whale?), but it may have been astronomical events recorded in historical sources, and archaeo-astronomy, which caused the citizens of Nineveh to listen and repent at Jonah's preaching. EKRON INSCRIPTION: The Philistine city of Ekron is mentioned in Joshua 13:3 & 1 Samuel 6:17. It was unknown for 3000 years except for references in the Old Testament. In 1996 Tel Miqne (or Khirbet el-Muqanna) was confirmed as Ekron. It is located 22 miles west of Jerusalem on Israel’s coastal plain. The excavation was led by Seymour Gitin & Trude Dothan. Ekron was one of the five cities of the Philistine pentapolis located in SW Canaan and along the coast, beginning in about 1200 B.C.

THE ATLAS MOTH WAS DESIGNED TO LOOK LIKE A COBRA...

Is this just a trick of the mind? Or is this careful planning by a thoughtful Designer who gave all of His Creation the ability to defend itself if needed?

Non-believers like to claim this is just a mind trick on the eyes. While people do sometimes see images that aren't really there in cloud formations and what not for example, I think there is a point at which you have to say honestly this was not a trick of the eyes. Not an accident. Careful Intelligent planning.

HEROD'S SARCOPHAGUS - "Now when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, 'Arise, take the young child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child's life are dead.' Then he arose, took the young child and his mother and came to the land of Israel" (Matthew 2:19-21).

In 2007 after years of research, Israeli archaeologist, Ehud Netzer discovered the mausoleum and sarcophagus of Herod the Great. It had been smashed to pieces. Herod's final resting place was in a mausolem built into the side of Herodium - a palace-fortress built by Herod. Archaeologist, Jodi Magness (UNC Chapel Hill) believes that Netzer's discovery is one of the greatest in Israel since the Dead Sea Scrolls, and reveals how Herod wanted to be remembered in history - as the King of the Jews (see her article, "Herod the Great’s Self-Representation Through His Tomb at Herodium," in Journal of Ancient Judaism Volume 10, issue 3, December 2019, pp. 258-287).
