Prayer is important. It’s one of the main ways God has given us to communicate with Him. He is our Father in Heaven who loves us and longs to have fellowship with us. But will we “pick up the phone” and pray?

On Sunday, I talked about how we can pray according to Jesus Himself. When we pray, we become more in line with God’s will and grow our relationship with Him.

We all make deals with God sometimes…

“Lord, if You help me through this mess—fix my relationship, ease my money stress, lift this heavy load—then I’ll read my Bible more, pray more, get more involved…”

It’s human. When we’re hurting, we just want relief right now.
But here’s the beautiful part: God doesn’t reject our half-hearted bargains. He meets us right where we are.

Look at Jacob in Genesis 28. On the run, sleeping on a rock, he strikes his famous deal: “God, if You give me food, clothes, protection, and bring me home safely… then You’ll be my God.”

God’s response? No scolding.
Instead, He gives Jacob a powerful dream of a ladder between heaven and earth — a sign of His nearness. Then He renews the promise, saying:
“Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go… I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” (Genesis 28:15)
God used Jacob’s bargain to draw him into a deeper relationship — and later even changed his name from “deceiver” to Israel.

That’s our God. He doesn’t just meet our immediate needs. He uses even our weakest moments to pull us closer, to show us His bigger plan, and to grow real faith and trust. Rather than just answering with what we want, God shows us what we need, and what He has planned through it all. It’s a step-by-step process from conditional promises to genuine surrender.

He’s not just solving problems — He’s shaping you.
