Mt. Pleasant #1 Baptist Church - "Cat Creek"

Mt. Pleasant #1 Baptist Church - "Cat Creek" Baptist Church in wonderful rural country setting since 1845. In the year 1845, Rev. Willeam McCammon organized and established the Mt. J.Y.

Pleasant No. 1 Baptist Church of Harrison County. Criswell gave a tract of land to be used for church and cemetery purposes. The first church building was constructed of logs and was located at the west side of the cemetery. The Congregation soon outgrew this first building and in 1860 a larger building was erected. It was closed for 2 years during the war between the states when, for safety reasons, all public gatherings were banned. On account of the size and manner of construction this building, was considered unsafe and was torn down in 1899. In the same year a new building was erected by Rev. William McGown who was pastor of the church. It was to have a new location at the east side of the cemetery. The building was all finished and was dedicated in the Spring of 1900 with Rev. McGown preaching the dedication sermon.
