Everything changed in that moment.

“It is finished.” (John 19:30)

But before He said those words, Jesus went through more than we can really put into words.

He was betrayed by one of His own friends.

Another friend denied even knowing Him—three times.

Most of the people who had followed Him just… disappeared.

He stood there, while people lied about Him and crowds shouted for Him to be killed.

They shoved a crown of thorns onto His head. Soldiers beat Him over and over again.

And then He carried His cross through the streets—hurt, exhausted, barely able to keep going.

At Golgotha, they nailed Him to it.

And lifted Him up between two criminals.

For hours, He hung there, carrying the weight of all our sin.

Jesus—who had never sinned.

He could’ve stopped it.

He could’ve called angels to come rescue Him.

He could’ve stepped down at any moment.

But He didn’t.

The sky went dark. The ground shook.

The temple veil tore in two.

And then He gave up His spirit.

“It is finished.”

It didn’t look like victory.

It looked like loss.

But it wasn’t.

It was part of God’s plan to rescue us—to take all the brokenness and make a way back.

That’s why it’s called Good Friday.

Because it wasn’t the end.

Sunday was coming.
