When danger strikes, most people instinctively move away from it. Fire, violence, accidents, and disasters trigger a natural desire to find protection and safety. Yet first responders do the opposite. Firefighters, police officers, and paramedics run toward the very scenes others are fleeing. They enter burning buildings, approach violent situations, and kneel beside the injured in chaotic moments. This response is unexpected because it goes against basic human instinct.

God calls us to be spiritual first responders when we see people in trouble because of sin. Instead of self-preservation and comfort, we choose service to them and to our Lord. Our motive is the grace of God and his desire for the salvation of all mankind.

What is one thing you’re thankful for about the work you do?

This Labor Day, we’re taking a moment to recognize the many different kinds of work that make up our lives. Jobs, homemaking, raising children, caring for family, volunteering, serving at church, helping a neighbor... so much of what we do is an opportunity to reflect God’s love.

The work may look different for each of us, but our purpose is the same: to serve faithfully wherever God has placed us.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”
Colossians 3:23

Tell us below: What is one thing you’re thankful for about the work God has given you to do?

✨Grace Wins in Real Life✨

Real life can bring doubts, failures, disappointments, and situations that feel impossible. But the good news of the gospel is that we don't have to prove ourselves to God.

In Romans 4, we see that Abraham was not declared righteous because of his works. He believed God's promise, and God credited that faith as righteousness. The same promise is ours in Christ. Jesus died for our sins and was raised to give us righteousness. Our hope isn't found in what we can do, but in what Christ has already done for us.

Join us this Sunday as we continue our Grace Wins/Romans series with:

GETTING TO KNOW PASTOR BISHOP - MEET THE BISHOP FAMILY 💙

Of course, getting to know Pastor Bishop means getting to know the people who mean the most to him!

Josh married Elisabeth, who also goes by Elissa, between college and seminary. He says marrying her was the best choice he ever made.

God has blessed them with four boys: Matthias (Ty), Malachi, Noah, and Ethan.

The Bishop family loves to camp, explore, and play, so we're guessing there may be some good adventures ahead for the Bishop family here in Arizona!

We’re so thankful to welcome Pastor Bishop, Elissa, and the boys to the Peace family. We’re looking forward to getting to know them and seeing all that God has in store for Peace!

Welcome, Bishop family! 💙

✨ Bible Verse of the Week ✨

📖 Psalm 90:17

“May the kindness of the Lord our God rest upon us.
Establish the work of our hands for us.
Yes, establish the work of our hands.”

As we go about our week, this verse is a beautiful reminder to seek God’s blessing and guidance in all that we do. May our work, our words, and our actions reflect His love and serve His purpose.

Stay afterward for our 10:45 AM Bible Study, where we spend time together growing in God’s Word.

GETTING TO KNOW PASTOR BISHOP - HIS MINISTRY JOURNEY

So, how did Pastor Bishop end up at Peace? 😊

After graduating from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Josh was assigned to serve at Peace Lutheran Church in Kokomo, Indiana. He served there for five years before accepting a call to serve as Youth and Family Pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, Michigan.

Throughout his ministry, one thing has remained especially important to Pastor Bishop: building relationships with people and strengthening their connection to Jesus as their Savior.

We’re excited to see how God will use those gifts here at Peace as we grow together in his Word and serve one another!

Stay tuned to meet the Bishop family!
