Improving Our Teaching
Be ready always. “Informal teaching moments pass quickly, so it is important to take advantage of them when they arise. … For example, a teenager with a difficult decision to make may be ready to learn about how to receive personal revelation” (Teaching in the Savior’s Way, 16).

“Rend That Veil of Unbelief”
After you’ve studied the scripture passages for this week and reviewed the questions and activities in the manual, consider sharing any of the following articles and activities with your family. These additional resources can assist you as you strive to teach the gospel in your home.
Ether 2; 3:1–6; 4:7–15

Seeking Personal Revelation
Receiving personal revelation can be different for each of us, but the Book of Mormon helps us understand that God is willing to guide us whenever we sincerely seek Him.

Articles
· “The Spirit of Revelation.” In this general conference address, Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles uses examples of light to help us better understand how we personally receive revelation.
· “How to Obtain Revelation and Inspiration for Your Personal Life.” In this general conference address, Elder Richard G. Scott (1928–2015) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles explains the difference between revelation and inspiration and how to receive both.
· “Our Search for Truth.” In this New Era article, Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles explains how to find truth and receive revelation through the Holy Ghost.
· “Praying to Our Father.” In this Friend article, President Henry B. Eyring testifies that God answers prayers.

Activity
· “Testimony Toolbox.” Use this activity from the Friend to talk about different tools to help your family members receive revelation.

Ether 2:16–25
Lessons from the Jaredites’ Crossing
Like the Jaredites crossing the ocean to travel to the promised land, we will all have trials to face. Although those trials may sometimes be difficult, we can rely on Christ, as well as friends and family, for comfort, support, and strength.

Articles
· “Upon the Top of the Waters.” This Ensign article tells how the experience of the Jaredites crossing the great deep helped one man better understand and cope with his mental health struggles.
· “Strength and Guidance for Anxious Times.” In this New Era article, President Dallin H. Oaks, First Counselor in the First Presidency, shares how the gospel of Jesus Christ gives us strength and guidance.
· “What Can We Do When Hard Things Happen to Us?” In this Friend article, Elder Robert D. Hales (1932–2017) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shares some thoughts about how God helps us face trials.
· “Safe on the Sea.” In this Friend article, President Thomas S. Monson (1927–2018) uses the story of the Jaredites to teach how to be safe on the seas of life. Includes a coloring page.

Activities
· “Bright Idea: I Can Do Hard Things!” Print this poster from the Friend and hang it up where your family can see it this week.
· “Scripture Boats.” Use these ideas from the Friend to make a boat with your family.

Ether 3
Created in God’s Image
Although most of us know that we are children of God, sometimes we forget that we are literally made in His image. He has a body of flesh and bones, just like us. Why is knowing you were made in God’s image important?

Articles
· “The Body, a Sacred Gift.” This Ensign article explores how we can see our bodies God’s way rather than the world’s way.
· “All Human Beings Are Created in the Image of God.” This Ensign message shares quotes from Church leaders about what it means to be created in God’s image.
· “Your Body: A Magnificent Gift to Cherish.” In this New Era article, President Russell M. Nelson tells how our unique and extraordinary bodies help us on our quest to return to our Heavenly Father.
· “My Body Is a Temple.” Use this article from the Friend to teach your children why their bodies are important.

Activities
· “It’s Good to Be Me!” Heavenly Father made everyone different. Invite family members to answer some questions and then draw a picture that represents them.
· “Like Him.” Do the action rhyme in this month’s Friend to teach how our bodies are created in the image of God.

Recap of First Zoom Relief Society Meeting: "Let God Prevail" by President Russell M. Nelson ~ Discussion led by Nicole Burgoyne

Here are a few of the quotes and ideas shared during the lesson:

“I learned that one of the Hebraic meanings of the word Israel is “let God prevail.”4 Thus the very name of Israel refers to a person who is willing to let God prevail in his or her life. That concept stirs my soul!
The word willing is crucial to this interpretation of Israel.5 We all have our agency. We can choose to be of Israel, or not. We can choose to let God prevail in our lives, or not. We can choose to let God be the most powerful influence in our lives, or not.”
-One sister commented that this talk helped her make a conscious effort to think about her choice to "let" God prevail in her life. She liked feeling like she was choosing it rather than doing it because she had to or was expected to. Making it her choice made her feel like she had a clearer view of where she was at spiritually.
“Not long ago, the wife of one of our grandsons was struggling spiritually. I will call her “Jill.” Despite fasting, prayer, and priesthood blessings, Jill’s father was dying. She was gripped with fear that she would lose both her dad and her testimony.
Late one evening, my wife, Sister Wendy Nelson, told me of Jill’s situation. The next morning Wendy felt impressed to share with Jill that my response to her spiritual wrestle was one word! The word was myopic.”
-Nicole shared that myopic can have three definitions: near-sighted, short-sighted, and narrow-minded. One sister commented that she often has a myopic view of her life-how she sees her life and what she wants to have happen in it. When we have faith in God and in his view of our life and what he wants it to become, we can let go of our vision of what we think is best and trust God and His greater perspective.
“Each of us has a divine potential because each is a child of God. Each is equal in His eyes. The implications of this truth are profound. Brothers and sisters, please listen carefully to what I am about to say. God does not love one race more than another. His doctrine on this matter is clear. He invites all to come unto Him, “black and white, bond and free, male and female.”17
The question for each of us, regardless of race, is the same. Are you willing to let God prevail in your life? Are you willing to let God be the most important influence in your life? Will you allow His words, His commandments, and His covenants to influence what you do each day? Will you allow His voice to take priority over any other? Are you willing to let whatever He needs you to do take precedence over every other ambition? Are you willing to have your will swallowed up in His?18”
-Nicole asked us to consider when and how we let God prevail in our lives. One sister shared how she thought this related to President Ogden's challenge in ward conference asking the sisters to find ways to gather Israel that are normal and natural. She has found small opportunities to talk more about Christ at work as she has prayed for them.
“During these perilous times of which the Apostle Paul prophesied,20 Satan is no longer even trying to hide his attacks on God’s plan. Emboldened evil abounds. Therefore, the only way to survive spiritually is to be determined to let God prevail in our lives, to learn to hear His voice, and to use our energy to help gather Israel.
Now, how does the Lord feel about people who will let God prevail? Nephi summed it up well: “[The Lord] loveth those who will have him to be their God. Behold, he loved our fathers, and he covenanted with them, yea, even Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and he remember[s] the covenants which he [has] made.”21
And what is the Lord willing to do for Israel? The Lord has pledged that He will “fight [our] battles, and [our] children’s battles, and our children’s children’s [battles] … to the third and fourth generation”!22”
-Nicole ended by reminding us of President Nelson’s challenge:
“As you study your scriptures during the next six months, I encourage you to make a list of all that the Lord has promised He will do for covenant Israel. I think you will be astounded! Ponder these promises. Talk about them with your family and friends. Then live and watch for these promises to be fulfilled in your own life.”

Improving Our Teaching
Teach clear and simple doctrine. The Lord’s gospel is beautiful in its simplicity (see Doctrine and Covenants 133:57). Rather than trying to entertain your family with extravagant lessons, make sure that what you teach is centered on pure and simple doctrine.
