(808)

The Gilbert Arizona Temple is a Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and will serve members of the church. The public open house will be held Monday- Saturday, January 18- February 15, 2014. The dedication will be held March 2nd. The highly detailed exterior of the temple will feature high quality pre-cast concrete and stone accentuated with fine rustications and beautifully

crafted art glass windows. The floor plan includes a sub-basement for mechanical equipment; a basement for the baptistry; a first floor for the entry, dressing rooms and administrative offices; a second floor for the chapel and instruction rooms; and a third floor for marriage rooms and waiting rooms. The wrought-iron fenced grounds will include fountains, shaded plazas and lush landscaping featuring 10 kinds of trees, 5 palm varieties and 24 species of shrubs, groundcovers and vines with trellises, arbors and pergolas placed throughout the site. A meetinghouse was also approved for the site, which will likely be built within two to four years. The two structures will share a 654-car parking lot.

I have calendars!!

It has been three years since I last published a calendar. It was kind of nice to take a break, but I'm excited to offer this new 2023 Arizona's Temples calendar. It features images of each of Arizona's six temples, including updated images of the Mesa Temple.

Calendar prices are as follows:
1 calendar = $17 + $7.50 postage
2 – 4 calendars = $16 each + $9 postage
5 – 9 calendars = $15 each + $12 postage
10 or more calendars = $14 each + $15 postage

****In addition, I'm offering a 10% discount off the calendar prices for calendars ordered and paid for through Black Friday (11/25). Prices are plus tax. Postage prices are not discounted.

To order: email me at [email protected] (subject line Calendar). Include your name, address, and how many you want. I’ll email you an invoice (reflecting 10% off) and ship your calendars. (Please don't attempt to order through a comment on a post or through a Facebook message. Those are really hard to keep track of.)

I’m also going to make these available on the morning of November 25th for anyone to pick up their calendars at my home (708 N. Stewart, Mesa) if you want to save on postage. The hours for pickup will be from 7am to 10am. If you would rather pick up your calendars, please indicate in your email and I won't charge postage or mail the calendars.

Some awesome storms in the vicinity of the Gilbert Temple tonight. You can see this storm clearing out the remnants of the previous dust storm.

Another fun night chasing lightning at the Gilbert Temple. I had to wait out the dust storm first. You can see the remnants of it on either side of the Temple.
For quite a while there wasn't much detail in the clouds, so I was very happy to end up with this.

Not a good angle, but here's tonight's Blood Moon and the Angel Moroni statue on the Gilbert Temple.

Not a good angle, but here's tonight's Blood Moon and the Angel Moroni statue on the Gilbert Temple.

The angle was bad and conditions were less than ideal, but it was fun to shoot.

Gilbert Temple Autumn Sunset
I've been so busy with the events surrounding the Mesa Temple Open House that I've missed the peaceful evenings at the Gilbert Temple.
I started shooting the sunset at Discovery Park, but I was able to go to the temple to shoot at dusk, afterward.

An awesome Arizona light show last night - plus a little dust storm.

I didn't end up with much to show for lightning bolts (although there is a small one just to the left of the base of the spire) but the light show all across the sky was incredible.
Also, notice the small dust storm heading my way from the north.

A beautiful scene at the Gilbert Temple earlier in the week.

They don't last long, but I always like it when rainbows make an appearance around a temple.

A strange sunset last night, thanks to the smoke from the Rafael Fire.

A strange sunset last night, thanks to the smoke from the Rafael Fire.

The smoke from the Rafael Fire ruined a potentially dramatic sunset and cast a strange quality of light on the Gilbert Temple last night.

An amazingly beautiful moonrise tonight. I was blessed to have the cloud cover clear out just in time!

An amazingly beautiful moonrise tonight. I was blessed to have the cloud cover clear out just in time!

Moonrise tonight. I lucked out with a gap between the departing clouds and the ones coming in tonight that will probably obscure the eclipse.
