We conclude our series on Middle Eastern religion this week by exploring the concept of "Jihad" (Arabic for "struggle"), often translated as "Holy War." How is this concept central to Islam, and how does it compare to militaristic imagery in our own Old and New Testaments? Worship at Peace Lutheran is at 11:00 am on Sunday.

This week, we will look at the difference between how the Christian Bible and the Muslim Quran describe Jesus. Here is where the contrast with another religion really highlights what is unique and significant about our Christian faith. We worship Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, fully God and fully divine, who died on the cross for our sins. They do not. Worship at Peace Lutheran is at 11:00am.

Note: We will have our rescheduled Council meeting after the service on Sunday.

This Sunday we will be looking at the Muslim holy book "The Quran" and we will talk about how it differs from the Christian Bible (OT and NT Scriptures). Most people might assume that the Quran is similar to the Bible in format and narrative style. It is not. Pastor King will share his own impressions from reading the Quran, as well as provide selections for people to see for themselves. Worship at Peace Lutheran is at 11:00am.

And now it's time for something completely different ... Throughout the summer, Peace Lutheran Church will be singing hymns from our own "Country-Gospel Songbook." These include many familiar favorites, with up-beat "old-timey" gospel songs that many remember from their youth.

Continuing our series on the religions of the Middle East, we will spend some time this Sunday looking at terminology. Why is Islam the name of the religion, but followers are called Muslims? What's the difference between the terms Jew, Israelite, Hebrew, and Israeli? Where do these names come from? Who are "The people of the Book"? In terms of our own Christian faith, why is it important to distinguish between faith and politics? Worship at Peace Lutheran is at 11:00am on Sunday.

Since there has been so much in the news lately about the United States, Israel, and Iran, and many people are not really familiar with the differences and similarities between the religions of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, this Spring I am going to be leading a series on our own Christian faith as compared to what others believe (Muslims in particular). As a way of beginning with a biblical/historical grounding, this week we will be looking at the story of Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar, from Genesis 16. Worship is at 11:00am on Sunday.

This week, we look at a story that is found in all four Gospels, each with subtle differences in detail that provide us with several levels of meaning. In the days before his death, Mary of Bethany anoints Jesus' feet. It was not only an act of love and gratitude, but one that foreshadowed Jesus' death and burial. Worhsip at Peace Lutheran is at 11:00 am on Sunday.
