Dayspring offers a rich heritage of Christian community, 200 acres of contemplative landscape, and the beauty and blessing of trees, meadows, and creeks. A small community of faith, Dayspring Church was born out of The Church of the Saviour in 1976. We continue with the traditions and wisdom of our parent church: commitment to follow Jesus in nonviolent ways of being and acting in resistance to systems of domination, integrity of membership, a foundation of Biblical vision, and the call to ministry in small groups. We listen for God's Word in scripture, in silence, and in creation. We hope to grow in both the inward journey of relationship with God and the outward journey in service to the needs of the world. We have evolved a practice of shared servant leadership in the church community and discernment of direction by the Spirit. Out of God's great gift of the community of all life at Dayspring, we have heard the cry of Earth along with the cry of the poor, and we are committed to moving into a more sustainable way of life at Dayspring. Mission groups are part of the legacy of The Church of the Saviour. Those who are called to a particular ministry focused on some point of need or suffering commit to work together, to practice certain disciplines for spiritual growth, and to share responsibility for Dayspring as a church and as a place.

This morning at Dayspring Church worship, Jen Goode offered the sermon. She noted in Psalm 33 that all comes from the breath of God, including all humans and all of creation. Jesus quoted from Hosea, "I desire mercy, not sacrifice." We cannot experience the divine promise without being faithful. She noted the frequent use of the word Selah in the psalms, with the meaning not being fully clear to scholars. It may be a call to rest and reflect on the meaning. She read a long poem by Matt Moberg on Selah that accompanies his artwork of the same name (the artwork is pictured here with the artist). The sermon is preceded by lectionary readings: Genesis 12:1-9 (read by Bill Samuel), Romans 4:13-25 (read by Nona Beth Cresswell), and Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26 (read by Margie Lance).

This morning at Dayspring Church's worship for Trinity Sunday. Jim Hall gave a message on "The Church as Trinity: A Dance of Gifts." The Trinity is a dynamic relationship, a divine dance. In the church, we see our lives as gifts. Both as individuals and as a church body, our gifts lead us to calls that put our gifts into action. On the recording, the scriptures used are before Jim's message. Jean Boynton-Brown read 1 Corinthians 12:3b-13, and Nona Beth Cresswell read Matthew 28:16-20.

This morning at Dayspring Church worship on Pentecost Sunday, Bill Samuel began the message time with a brief reflection on Pentecost and how the Holy Spirit brings unity amidst diversity. He then opened it up to sharing from others. Those sharing were San Rogers, Trish Stefanik, Elizabeth St. Cyrr, Brian Higgins, Jen Goode, and Brian Higgins again. The recording begins with the reading of scriptures, first by Trish Stefanik, then by Jim Hall, and finally by Bill Samuel.

This morning at Dayspring Church worship on this 7th Sunday of Easter, Nona Beth Cresswell offered the message. This was preceded by the reading of lectionary readings - Acts 1:6-14 (read by Nona Beth), 1 Peter 4:12-14 & 5:6-11 (read by Bill Samuel), and John 17:1-11 (read by Trish Stefanik). Nona Beth noted that she has had many encouragements from the Holy Spirit this month, providing a counter to how troubled she is by all that's going on in our country and the world. These experiences mesh with Peter's advice on responding to the "fiery ordeal" in his letter.

This morning in Dayspring Church worship, San Rogers offered the message. It was about the meaning of the Great Commandment. How do we love God and our neighbor? She drew heavily from Henri Nouwen's book "Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World."

At our Dayspring Church worship this morning, Christy Gordon shared the message. It was about the Gospel lectionary reading (John 20:19-31) in which the resurrected Jesus appears to the disciples, who were in a locked room out of fear. In praying about what she should share, the Chicken Little story came to her, and this was acted out in the service. The disciples gathered together to strengthen one another and to ground themselves. Jesus appeared to offer them peace.
