In Dwapar Yuga, Srimati Radharani’s brother, Vrishabhanu
Maharaj’s son who was Sridama , that same Sridama appeared as Sri Abhiram Thakur in MahaPrabhu’s pastime. There are many pastimes of Sri Abhiram Thakur. His pastimes are described in the book Bhakti Ratnakar and also in a book named Abhiram Lilamrta (in Bengali) written by one of his disciples which is still available.
Nityananda Prabhu and Abhiram Thakur were very close to each other. Mahaprabhu himself told to Abhiram Thakur that, “you go to Gauda desa and preach there with Nityananda”.
Nityananda Prabhu always used to glorify Abhiram Thakur’s activities and Abhiram Thakur always used to glorify Nityananda Prabhu.
Abhiram Thakur had a disciple named Gopal who used to live in Gauda desa. One day Nityananda Prabhu suddenly appeared in front of Gopal. Nityananda Prabhu wanted to know how much merciful was Abhiram Thakur towards his disciple. So when Nityananda Prabhu appeared in front of Gopal, Gopal was very shocked.
He said to Nityananda with folded hands, “Prabhu , how can I serve you?”
Nityananda Prabhu said, “From Jagannatha Puri, I want Jagannatha prasadam right now, I am extremely hungry. Please give Jagannatha prasadam immediately.”
Hearing this Gopal started crying that he is unable to serve Nityananda Prabhu. Nityananda prabhu wanted Jagannatha prasadam , but Gopal’s house is in Gauda desh. It will take 12 days to reach Jagannatha Puri by foot and another 12 days to come back, so how can he give Jagannatha prasadam immediately to Nityananda Prabhu.?
Crying, he begged mercy from his Guru Abhiram Thakur and lost consciousness. Abhiram Thakur appeared in front of Gopal. Abhiram Thakur asked Gopa in front of Nityananda prabhu, “why are you crying? What happened?”
Gopal said, “Nityananda Prabhu Balaram asked Jagannatha prasdam from me but how can I give, It takes 12 days to go to Puri and another 12 days to come back.”
Abhiram Thakur said, “oh you are crying for this reason? Just stand here.” Abhiram Thakur with his spiritual energy stuck two wings like a bird on the arms of Gopal and said,”just fly and go to Puri and get prasadam for Nityananda prabhu.”
With blessings from Abhiram Thakur, Gopal started flying. In seconds he reached Jagannatha Puri. Lord Jagannatha already told his priest to give the best prasadam and in large quantity to a devotee named Gopal. So when Gopal reached the priest gave him the pots of best prasadam and kept them on Gopal’s shoulder. Gopal immediately started flying with the pots and in seconds reached his home in Gaudadesh. He gave the prasadam to Nityananda prabhu.
Nityananda Prabhu said I wont have Jagannatha prasadam alone, call your Guru. So Gopal called Abhiram Thakur and both he and Nityananda prabhu had prasadam together.
