The ideology that the white man is holding black people down has held our minds hostage for decades now!
Although we see many successful black people overcome obstacles and challenges, and create a successful life according to their own means, values, and standards, many more blame white people for their lack of success.
With all the opportunity afforded to everyone in this country, we seem to believe we’re the only ones not meant to make it! To rise from the pit! We somehow believe continuing to have a victim mentality will somehow make things better. We somehow believe that black people exist in our own world and no one has experienced what “our ancestors” had to endure!
Then we infiltrate our children’s minds with the same ideology and if they dare attempt to overthrow these thoughts, we quickly remind them of what the white man did and ridicule them for thinking they’re better than everyone else for trying to make something of themselves. Or, we hold them accountable for taking care of the whole black community, when they try to teach us to be responsible for our own lives and success.
No! In this day and age, It’s not the white man whose holding you down, it’s the perception of it that gives you excuse to not work to achieve the goals you need to, for YOUR life! You’re waiting on these people who keep promising to make life better for “the black community” and decade after decade, THEY HAVENT!
Now, remind me AGAIN, who’s holding you as a BLACK hostage?
