My father’s first cousin was a Pearl Harbor survivor. I remember his ride in having placed his life in harms way and survived. Recently I was able to visit the Arizona Memorial. As I read the names and ranks of those who’s lives were lost, I wa struck by the overwhelming number of enlisted men. On questioning I came to realize that this was a Sunday morning attack. Most officers and few enlisted could afford to be in town on liberty. I realize that enlisted greatly outnumbered officers, but it brought home to me the sacrifice made by the common man in defense of our country. I am brought to tears today as I realize what we owe those “common men and women” who die for us every day.

OUR NEW PASTOR HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED

The Oak Grove United Methodist Church is excited to announce the appointment of our new pastor, Rev. Rob West. Rev. West is coming from the pastorate of the First United Methodist Church of Clanton, Alabama. His first Sunday at Oak Grove is July 9th. We welcome Rob and his wife Doris to our church!

This world is broken and so am I.
Our nation is disintegrating into wretched self-centeredness.
The organzied church has become dry bones scattered across a fallow landscape.
The skelton will gather in a few hours as a form of godliness, but deny The Power.
But it need not be so.
For "the hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified."
Let the bride of Christ become undignified this day in the worship of her Bridegroom.
And then may she follow His example into His nation and His world.
"I tell you the truth, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit." (John 12:24)
This world is broken and so am I.
Broken is good when Jesus gets a hold of it.
For then it becomes a harvest.
