A note from Pastor Glenn. ✍️
Planning
I think we all agree that planning is better than not planning, but is all planning good?
There is a kind of planning that is sinful. This planning does not take God into account – before, during, or after plans are made. We plan as if God either does not exist, or he is not interested in what we do.
Other planning acknowledges God, but it’s a little on the presumptuous side. We may ask God to guide us, but we make our plans with little thought about what God requires. Then, once plans are made, we ask God to bless them.
Is there another alternative? I’ve found that the best planning takes the time to seek and to discern God’s plan from the start. To the best of our understanding and ability, with intentionality and initiative, we plan to join God in what he’s doing. But even as we work our plan, we keep listening, watching, paying attention to God’s leading. And when we need to, we adjust course to stay aligned with his will as we understand it along the way.
We don’t have to have a perfect picture of God’s will before we start because, after all, a moving vehicle is easier to steer than one that is standing still. The key is to know God has a plan, we to never stop listening to him to understand what it is.
This Sunday, we’ll be looking at the wisdom of James as he considers the best approach to planning in God’s kingdom.
As always, I look forward to seeing you there!
