Sacred Currents: Earth-Centered Gatherings

Join us on Wednesday evenings!
6:00-7:00 pm: Small group meetings
7:00-7:15 pm: Transition, fellowship, and teatime.
7:15-8:15 pm: Sacred Currents Gathering - Sound Bath on the New Moon (September 9)

Each month follows the moon: rest at the new moon,
intention as it rises, celebration at the full, release as it wanes.

We have had several requests for Wednesday evening childcare, which is not in our budget this year. If you’d like to volunteer or make a special donation to support childcare on Wednesday evenings, please email me at [email protected].

Sincerely,
Eric Hepburn, Minister

This Sunday @ SGUUF - Water Communion!

Annual Water Communion is where the community bring a small amount of water from a place that is special to them. During the appointed time in the service, people one by one pour their water together into a large bowl. As the water is added, the person who brought it tells why this water is special to them.

The combined water is symbolic of our shared faith coming from many different sources. It is often then blessed by the congregation, and sometimes is later boiled and used as the congregation’s “holy water” in child dedication ceremonies and similar events.

Join us Wednesdays for Sacred Currents!
Singing Resistance @ 6:00 PM.
Waning Moon Grief Tending @ 7:15 PM

"San Gabriel" names this Fellowship, the river through Georgetown, and the valley many of us call home — the ancestral homeland of the Tonkawa people, who call it Takachue Pouetsu, "the land of good water." Sacred Currents takes its name from that living heritage, honoring our connection to the river, the land, and one another.

Singing Resistance meets every Wednesday at 6pm as part of our Sacred Currents lineup. No singing experience required — just a willingness to raise your voice alongside your neighbors. Come as you are; leave less alone.

Waning Moon Grief Tending - Practice the art and experience the gift of grief work. We will explore and create together adding in elements of song, poetry, movement, and deep listening to honor our collective grief & gratitude. Our gatherings welcome all forms of grief — personal, collective, ancestral, and relational — with care for whatever is present. There is no grief too big or too small for these circles.

Grief Tending is our least child-friendly Sacred Currents event style. We anticipate that parents might struggle to participate fully in griefwork if their attention is divided by their present children.

This Sunday @ SGUUF - RE Art Studio Reception and Open House

- New Member Joining Ceremony during Sunday Service

- Choice, then Agency, finally Liberation by Eric Hepburn - The illusion of powerlessness stems from our belief that we can't choose. Owning our choices and the real situations and circumstances that boundary those choices is an act of agency. Well practiced, this agency deepens into a lived experience of liberation - sowing the seeds for our collective liberation.

Sunday @ SGUUF - Fat Liberation: Widening Our Circle of Social Justice by Jami Moore

Some may be familiar with "body positivity", but fewer have encountered the history of the fat liberation movement. Rooted in the belief that people of all body sizes deserve dignity, respect, and equitable treatment, fat liberation challenges the stigma, discrimination, and systemic barriers faced by fat people in healthcare, employment, public spaces, transportation, clothing access, media representation, and everyday life.

In this service, we will explore the history and principles of fat liberation, examine how weight bias shapes our lives and institutions, how our culture views fatness as a moral failing, and consider what fat liberation justice and inclusion can look like through a Unitarian Universalist lens. Drawing from both research and personal experience, we will reflect on the ways body size intersects with other identities, belonging, and human dignity, and how our faith calls us to widen our understanding of liberation for all people.

This Sunday @ SGUUF - Journey to Wholeness by Eric Hepburn - We're experimenting with a new earth-centered Wednesday night program this year. Why? What are we doing on Wednesday nights that's different from what we do on Sundays? Why is it different? Why does it matter?

Sunday @ SGUUF - A Blessing For What We Carry by Candice White

This Sunday’s All-Ages Service will include a blessing for the new year ahead, inspired by the picture book Tomorrow I’ll Be Brave. All of us are entering something, carrying something, and needing courage, curiosity, kindness, and community. Together, we will bless what we carry and what we hope to offer one another.

This Sunday @ SGUUF - The Courage to Confess: Finding Healing Through Redemption by Lou Snead -
Unitarian Universalists are often comfortable talking about justice, compassion, and personal growth—but what about sin, confession, and redemption? These words can make many of us uneasy, yet they point toward an enduring spiritual question: How do we repair the relationships that matter most when they have been damaged by our words or actions?

At this service Lou Snead will explore how honest self-examination, confession, forgiveness, and reconciliation can become powerful spiritual practices that restore trust, deepen community, and open the way to healing and renewal.
