For Friday October 31, 2025
Read John Chapter 11

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26 NKJV)

Most calendar today list October 31st as Halloween. A day that when I was a lot younger than I am now I remember it as a day of costumes and candy. But I have noticed that for the past several years Halloween has taken in some places a darker turn. People's homes and yards are decorated with symbols of death and destruction. And while costumes are still worn and candies still given out it's not the same. And while I am familiar with some of the cultural aspects surrounding October 31st, it's still good to know that with Christ we serve the one who declared Himself to be the resurrection and the life. And because of this we know that death does not have the final word. We also need to remember that Jesus asked Martha a simple question after His declaration and it is one that everyone must answer. And how you answer makes all the difference.

Thoughts on the Psalms
Thursday September 19, 2024
The LORD reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved. The LORD is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people. Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy.
(Psalms 99:1-3 KJV)

Remember that whatever situations we find in our lives God is still in control. He knows what's going on even before we do. And for those who believe and trust in Him we know that all things will work together for good. Even if it doesn't always look or feel that way.

Thoughts on the Psalms
Wednesday September 18, 2024
Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
(Psalms 139:7-12 KJV)
Just a thought: No matter who you are, where you are, or even what you are facing in life at this moment. God sees, knows, loves and cares for you. Praise God we are never truly alone!

A Devotion for Sunday October 1, 2023
A Rhetorical Question
A Devotional Thought for Sunday October 1 2023
Read Luke 14:1-6
And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day? (Luke 14:3 KJV)
Now if you have ever raised a child, or have ever been a child yourself you have heard at least once a rhetorical question directed at you. Usually along the lines of “What were you thinking?” The question is rhetorical because the answer is obvious to the one who asked it: You weren’t.
That’s the situation in today’s Gospel reading. Jesus is invited to a Pharisee’s house for the Sabbath Dinner. This was a big deal back then and would normally be an honor to be invited. But Jesus was invited because the Pharisee and some others were looking to find a way to get Him in trouble with the other leaders who were there.
But with a simple rhetorical question Jesus pointed out the obvious. It doesn’t matter what day of the week it is, it is always good, and morally right to do what you can to help someone else who is suffering. To do so shows people that you care and that through God’s love in Christ they can find the hope and love that they need. AMEN.

Just a Word from THE WORD
Friday January 1, 2021
That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24 (NKJV)

My thoughts on THE WORD: If you are reading this rejoice! God has blessed you with a new day! And as we stand at the start of new year remember that you haven’t been this way before and you don’t know what lies ahead. That’s how God designed it for our lives to remind us to look to Him for guidance on how to live this day.
