Tabernacle Baptist Church of George, Iowa was formed in 1932 by a small group of evangelical believers. It was originally called the First English Baptist Church also known as the Gospel Tabernacle. Since they had no building to meet in, they rented the Evangelical United Brethren Church each Sunday afternoon for Sunday School and worship services.

Day 5: We visited the ruins of Laodicea (lukewarm church), and the Colossae site where we went up the tel, not yet exposed by archeologists. Lunch was at a previous train repair yard, we stopped at a carpet making co-op and are now staying overnight in beautiful Kusadasi, overlooking the Aegean Sea.

Here's another update from Dr. J on the trip:

Day 3: Pergamum and Thyatira. Pergumum was a sobering reminder where Christians were persecuted and died for their faith. John shared Rev 2:12-17 at this site, reminding us not to compromise when it comes to politics and religion as our focus should be to remain faithful to our Savior. At the ruins of Thyatira we were reminded in Rev 2:18-27 to not compromise in order to have financial gain.

Here's another update:
Day 2 of Istambul: The Blue Mosque, The Hagia Sophia (the world's largest church for many centuries including Eastern orthodox and now Muslim). An amazing obelisque from Tutmosa the 3rd (Moses' adoptive half brother). Ancient city wall, Roman acqueduct. We enjoyed some fresh drinks and snacks, bus touring the city and learning of its history. We then took a flight to Izmir/Smyrna for another night's stay in a beautiful hotel. Tomorrow we see two of the seven church sites!

Here's an update on those who are on the Greece/Turkey trip.

Day 1: Istanbul, Turkey. We have traveled many miles, enjoyed new and old friendships, tasted some delicious food and smelled the scents of the city! Looking forward to a new day in the Bible lands tomorrow!

Lord, on this Sunday morning I slow my heart before You. Wash away the rush of the week, quiet my spirit, and refocus my soul. Let worship rise within me and gratitude shape my thoughts today. I choose to rest in Your presence.
