1 Kings 19:1-12

Elijah went from a great spiritual high to an emotional low full of discouragement and despair. Surprisingly that isn’t unusual. As humans we are vulnerable to emotional let down, grief and sadness after an emotional or spiritual victory. Satan knows this too and will target people that are on fire for the Lord. He will do his best to distract you and extinguish your flame. Don’t let your light go out! Fan those flames back to an inferno for the Lord!!

In Elijah’s situation he felt like a failure because his mighty victory over the prophets of Baal didn’t turn the people back to God, he felt alone because there wasn’t anyone else fighting with him and he was physically exhausted. God knew he needed rest and nourishment and provided both.

If we get discouraged in our honest and sincere efforts to follow God in obedience we can count on God to give us strength, direction and encouragement so that we can complete the task. This may be in the form of a trusted friend that supports, encourages and prays for you. Or it may be a quiet whisper from God in our alone time with him during prayer or journaling.

Remember these lessons from the life of Elijah:

1. Our greatest moments of spiritual victory make us targets of Satan, be vigilant

2. We are never walking a difficult journey alone, God is always with us and he will send help

3. When struggling get alone with God and listen for the whispers

Dear Lord,
Thank you for the spiritual highs on the mountain tops of life, thank you for those times we are on fire for you. Please protect us from the enemy when we are burning bright for you. If we get discouraged please provide for us like you did for Elijah; give us support and whisper words of encouragement and direction. Thank you for always being there for us.

Amen

It’s cold and snowy now but just imagine how refreshing a drink cooled in the snow would be in the heat and humidity of a July day!! Ahhh so good! The Bible talks about that very thing!

Proverbs 25:13
Like a snow-cooled drink at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to the one who sends him; he refreshes the spirit of his master.

By being faithful and trustworthy to others we can be refreshing and uplifting to them. This can be in friendships, in marriage, with our parents, at our workplace or in a task we do for the church. We should always strive to be faithful, honest, reliable and dependable.

By following through on a commitment and doing it to the best of our ability we can bless and refresh the soul and spirit of the one who is depending on us. This follow through allows us to shine the light of Jesus to others.

God is always faithful and his blessings refresh us, we need to follow his example. Since we are here to be messengers of the good news when we do that faithfully it is pleasing to our Heavenly Father.

Dear Lord,
Thank you for your faithfulness to us. Please help us to shine your light by being a faithful friend, child, spouse, employee and member of your church. Please help us to be a snow-cooled drink to someone’s soul who needs the refreshment of your living water.

Amen

Did you know that snow is mentioned over 20 times in the Bible? It’s most often used as a symbol of refreshment or purity. In Psalm 147:16-18 it’s used to illustrate God’s power and dominion over nature.

Psalm 147:15-18
He sends out his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. He gives snow ❄️ like wool; he scatters frost like ashes. He hurls down his crystals of ice like crumbs; who can stand before his cold? 🥶 He sends out his word, and melts them; he makes his wind blow and the waters flow.

Psalm 147 was a community hymn, this section was an encouragement to praise God for his power and blessings. God is in complete control of nature. He can make it snow in the south and keep it cold. We have “expected” seasons but God is in control and can change it at any time he chooses. His power and might have no restrictions.

We as believers, his people will be able to withstand the icy blast because his word, power and provisions melt it all away so that living water flows for us. Praise the Lord that we have his word to follow and that it can melt the snow, frost, ice and hail. That warmth is for us, his love is for us and his rules are for us. Praise the Lord for it all!

Dear Lord,
Thank you for your word that melts away all that is cold and harsh in this world. Thank you for your flow of water that quenches our thirst and thank you for the refreshing and purifying snow.

Amen

Ephesians 3:17-19
God’s Love is All Encompassing

Breadth: wide enough to cover all of our experiences, sins and struggles as well as everyone in the whole wide world

Length: covers us through our whole lives from when he knew us before we were in our mother’s womb, to birth, through earthly life, to death and on through eternity

Height: it is up on the mountain when we celebrate and are excited, elated, pumped up and on top of the world

Depth: it goes down in the deepest valley, into the pit of despair, the lowest depression, discourament, isolation and death.

Romans 8:38-39
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels or demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. “

Tacos 🌮 are terrific, almost everybody has a variety they like. You know what else is terrific? PRAYING 🙏! Sometimes praying can be intimidating, but there is a way that you can make praying as fun as taco night! Keep reading and you will find out the secret 🤫

Tacos come in all shapes, sizes and flavors. There are hard or soft shells, some are spicy, lots of toppings and sauces, sometimes they are messy and you can have them for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Did you know prayer is the same?!?!?

Someone (not me) came up with a great way to pray called the TACOS 🌮 method

T is for Thanksgiving
A is for Applause 👏
C is for Confession
O is for Others
S is for Self and Silence

T-express gratitude
A-praise God
C-admit sin, repent
O-ask on behalf of others
S-ask God about yourself
S-listen for God to speak

Here is how prayer is like tacos 🌮 🙏
•Variety: everyone’s prayers are different and that’s ok!
•Flavorful: each prayer is special and unique
•Good for You: reduces stress, hand your burdens over to God, elevate mood, helps people process their problems
•Hard or Soft Shell: sometimes the words flow easily and sometimes they don’t and praying is hard. When you can’t find the words ask the Holy Spirit to help you convey your message to God
•Spicy: sometimes prayer expresses anger or frustration and that’s ok
•Filling: fill your cup and restore your soul by communicating with your creator
•Walking 🌮 Tacos: prayer is portable and can go with you anywhere
•Great for Big Gatherings: unification, powerful in groups
•Lots of Toppings: prayer can be about anything and everything. God wants it all
•Breakfast-Lunch-Dinner:
pray before meals
•People Can Make Their Own: no rush, use everyday language or in tongues; stand, sit or kneel; silent or loud; alone or with others; hands held high or folded
•Might be Messy: there might be tears of sorrow, joy or frustration. It’s all
Ok!!

So don’t be intimidated by praying 🙏! It’s as easy as TACOs!! I hope you give it a try!!

How to Get Your Own All Access Backstage Pass

Do you have a favorite band or sports team? Wouldn’t you love to be a VIP and be able to sit on the sidelines of your favorite team,
be on stage with your favorite band or stroll down the red carpet with your favorite actor? You could be there face-to-face, one-on-one talking directly to someone you look up to. Wouldn’t that be awesome?

Did you know that God has a way for us to have VIP backstage all access to him? A way for us to approach him, talk to him one-on-one, be accepted and even welcomed in his presence. Ephesians 2:18-19 talks about this. “ For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. So when you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the Saints and members of the same household of God.”

So this backstage pass that God offers goes beyond all access!! We become VIPs, part of the team, the band or the movie crew. God offers us to be fellow citizens and family members with the Saints!! We are official!!

The typical VIP backstage pass costs money, not everybody is eligible or can obtain one, or there are just a few available for family and friends. Good news though that’s not how God‘s all access VIP backstage passes work. Every pass is free, everyone is offered one and they never run out!

God sent his son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus paid the ultimate price for our backstage pass to allow us to be VIPs. In order to get your free pass there are a few steps you must complete. You need to believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, that he died for your sins on the cross and rose from the dead. You need to repent for your sins and follow Jesus trying to live your life like he did. When you take these steps, you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, you become a child of the king and you have complete and total VIP access to God as a member of Team Jesus.

If you would like to know more about obtaining your own VIP All Access pass we invite you to visit one of our Crossfire Youth Rodeo Events, a Hunters for Salvation Event, come to the Cowboy Church of Geneva, AL Sunday morning 9:30 am service, a Wednesday evening 6:30pm service or attend a church in your area. Time is running out!
