Pentecost was the fourth feast of Israel’s sacred year. The feast before it was Firstfruits. Firstfruits marked the beginning of the barley harvest and pointed prophetically to Jesus Christ, the “firstfruits” of the resurrection, ascending to the Father. Seven weeks later came the Feast of Weeks, also called Pentecost, meaning “fiftieth.” This feast marked the beginning of the wheat harvest.

On the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2, after Christ had ascended to the Father, the Holy Spirit was poured out and the great harvest of souls began. That harvest has continued through the Church Age and will continue until the Lord gathers His Church home.

“Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” — John 4:35 (KJV)
