Act 16:25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
Act 16:26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.
Act 16:27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
Act 16:28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
Act 16:29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
Act 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
Act 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Act 16:32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
Act 16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
Act 16:34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

If you belong to a church long enough, eventually it will disappoint you.

Someone will make a decision you disagree with.

A ministry you love will change.

A song you dislike will be sung.

Someone will overlook you.

The pastor will disappoint you.

People you trusted will hurt you.

But not every disappointment is evidence that we need another church.

Sometimes disappointment is where discipleship begins.

Because covenant community forces us to confront something consumer culture allows us to avoid:

People are difficult.

Including us.

If I leave every community when it becomes uncomfortable, I may protect myself from difficult people.

I may also protect myself from becoming the kind of person who knows how to forgive, endure, reconcile, and love.

Sometimes the church that disappoints you is also the church through which God exposes something in you.

Not every discomfort is a sign to leave.

Some discomforts are invitations to grow
