As August comes to a close, Flat Jesus has visited many different places though He is often seen alone. He enjoyed attending the Steuben County Fair where he got up close and personal with the animals and enjoyed the floral displays. He was in the kitchen while bread was being baked. He accompanied one couple on their trip to Massachusetts and all the stops along the way: the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and the Capitol Building in Albany. He was glad to get tucked into bed when they finally reached the Comfort Inn in Hyannis. Then, over the next few days, He enjoyed the sun and the sand in West Dennis Beach, Sandy Neck Beach - where He could see the dunes - and Nauset Light Beach.
Flat Jesus also made his way to many churches and was seen at Adoration, by the Holy Water font, and beside statues of some of His saintly friends. There is still time to take Flat Jesus on an adventure with your family - where will YOU take Hime?

Our annual Queen's Tea was again a royal and beautiful success! The back hall of the parish center was transformed into an amazing Marian Museum. More than a hundred images of our Blessed Mother were displayed in the form of prints, paintings, cross stitch/needlework, statues, candles and more. Marian hymns played in the background while 57 (!) attendees enjoyed the tea, treats, and conversation. This was the 8th or 9th time we have held the tea party, and it really felt like it has now been embraced as a parish event. All ages were represented, from 3 1/2 months young to who knows how many years? - men and women, and Flat Jesus also made an appearance. If you missed this, the decorations will remain in the back hall until the end of the month. Join us for a coffee hour on Sunday, 8/30, after the 10 am Mass so you can delight in all the Marian splendor!

You never know where you will see Flat Jesus next! This past week He was seen at Norfolk Beach, Virginia, enjoying the waves. On Saturday, He celebrated the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary with Mass at the Grotto of the Pieta in Wayland. He accompanied some parishioners to Air National Guard Family Day in Rome, NY; Jesus is always on duty protecting our skies. He loved Canandaigua Lake. He also joined some students for a retreat at Notre Dame Retreat House and enjoyed a trip to beautiful Sonnenberg Gardens. Where will you take Flat Jesus?

The skies darkened in the afternoon and there was a sprinkle of rain as we began but it really started to pour midway through Mass! The raindrops pounded the ceiling of the tent, thunder clapped a few times, and Fr. White had to raise his voice to be heard even while using a microphone, but the weather didn't bring anybody down; it added to the adventure! Close to 70 people gathered to celebrate the mass and then share a potluck dinner afterwards. The rain did complicate matters in that regard as one had to dash through the downpour to get food, then dash back again for a seat at the table. One parishioner who had an umbrella acted as a shuttle/escort back and forth. Thanks again to Sharyon for graciously hosting this event!

Don't miss this wonderful event! Mass will be celebrated under a tent on the beautiful grounds of Tranquil Reflections in Perry. After our celebration, there is a potluck supper (pulled pork, beef on weck, and the rest is whatever we all bring). After a delicious meal shared with friends, you can wander these grounds which boast a living Rosary garden, outdoor Stations of the Cross, a pond with a fountain, and many gorgeous gardens. This is such an uplifting and fun time. PLEASE join us!

As we entered the month of August, Flat Jesus was seen in several different places: camping at Green Lakes State Park, as part of an outdoor grotto display, on a dinner cruise of Raquette Lake, and out to lunch or dinner with friends. Though His image is not apparent in that picture, I am sure He was there in spirit! Invite Flat Jesus to join you on your summer adventures - big or small - He wants to be included, and we'd love to see the pictures :)

August 1 & 2, 2026 EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Prayer of the Faithful

The Lord’s hands feed us, answering all our needs, and so we call to mind our needs and the needs of our sisters and brothers, so we may place them in the Lord’s hands.

1. For the Church, that we may find ways to multiply the charity we provide, so that all who hunger are fed, and all who are in need will be satisfied … we pray to the Lord.

2. For leaders in government and healthcare, give them wisdom and strength to make the right decisions for the well-being of those entrusted in their care … we pray to the Lord.

3. For those who work on farms and ranches, on the sea or in factories to provide food for the world … we pray to the Lord.

4. For all gathered this day, that we may be moved to help our neighbors in need of food, clothing, housing, or welcome, so that through us the Lord may answer their prayers … we pray to the Lord.

5. For those who have died; may they come to share in the fullness of Christ’s glory … we pray to the Lord.

6. For the special intentions we hold dear to our hearts … we pray to the Lord.

Generous God, you are near to all who call upon you, gracious, merciful, and good to all. May our hands multiply your generosity, bringing plenty to those with little. Hear this and all our prayers, through the one who multiplied the loaves and fishes, Jesus Christ, our Lord.

This week, Flat Jesus made a trip to the Genesee Country Village Museum with our CGS leader and her family. There, they all watched the Ladies Vintage Baseball team play a game, learned what was involved in making rope, and saw a puppet show in which Satan was defeated! Where will you take Flat Jesus this month? Or, if you are staying put, what will you have Him do with you at home?

This week, Flat Jesus enjoyed sitting beside a campfire on a summer evening. He accompanied one of our parishioners as she practiced driving, and He spent some time with crafts, sitting beside another parishioner as she worked on her cross stitch projects. (looks like they are embracing the "Christmas in July" idea!)
You don't need to go anywhere spectacular to take a picture with Flat Jesus; I am sure He'd enjoy having a morning cup of coffee with you, going to work or the grocery store, weeding the garden, reading a book or just about anything! We look forward to seeing where He shows up next.
