"The church, on the other hand, is set in the world with a double role, as salt to arrest—or at least to hinder—the process of social decay, and as light to dispel the darkness."

The GMA would like to extend an invitation to the people of Geneseo to join us in praying for our schools. On Tuesday, August 11th at 8 a.m., we will be gathering at the flagpole at each of our public schools for prayer before live student attendance resumes next Thursday. School year 2020-2021 is likely to be a challenging year for our teachers, students and district leadership and staff. Let's hold them up in prayer. See you at the pole.

We are partnering with FCA and Moms in Prayer. FCA is organizing prayer at the athletic fields and both FCA and Moms in prayer are working on writing encouraging notes to our teachers. Let's be a blessing together.

Chief Casey asked me to get the word out to us. You can have a nice walk or do some fishing at the Hennepin Canal! Enjoy the 70 degree weather.

Introducing Porch Angels. Maybe you've heard of "Porch Devils"? They're those folks who steal packages left on the porch. Imagine a ministry designed to bring blessings to porches throughout our church and even beyond. Porch Angels will help those who are housebound with essential shopping tasks, etc. while maintaining safety and social distancing. This ministry was developed by First United Methodist. Pastor Chris Ritter has generously shared his idea with us and I am working with Pastor Chris, and the Geneseo City leadership to make this a city-wide initiative. I believe that the GMA is an essential partner in this effort. Together, we could likely cover half of the needs in Geneseo just by being the church to our own people. Pastors, contact Pastor Steve Palm [email protected] if you would like more info about Porch Angels.

Attention all men!

First United Methodist Church has cancelled the Men's Lenten Breakfast due to the advance of the coronavirus (Co-Vid 19). There is great concern for larger gatherings with food and we are especially concerned for our over 60 crowd which is a large part of our constituency. Next week's breakfast at GEFC will likely be cancelled as well. Stay tuned for more details. Look on the bright side, men. We're giving up breakfast for Lent! A sacrifice for sure, but nothing in comparison with Jesus' sacrifice for us!!!
