I'm hoping this will reach people who may be considering worshipping with us this Sunday, Easter Sunday. We will be having an early Easter Service beginning at 8:00 and it will be followed by breakfast in the Fellowship Hall. No need to bring anything for the meal. We will then dismiss for the day. We want to wish everyone a Happy Resurrection Day.

FREEDOM!! That has been a hot topic in recent weeks, as many Americans get anxious for businesses, churches, sports venues, etc., to open back up and get life back to some kind of normalcy. Many have voiced strong opinions on the subject and, in some places, protests have taken place.
Part of what we celebrate this Memorial Day is the freedom to voice our opinions on the issues of the day. As we celebrate this Memorial Day holiday, we should thank God for those who gave the ultimate price, their lives, so that we have the freedom to voice those opinions. "the land of the free" only came about and continues because of "the brave" who have defended (and continue to defend) our great nation.
This Memorial Day may look a little different than past years, but we all know that its purpose is to honor America's finest who gave it all for you and me.

I can't speak for all of you, but I am beginning to think along the lines of "Enough is enough!" With only 3 positive cases of Covid 19 in Wayne County, it seems that it should be time to begin to open up a little more of the activities, including, of course, church services. We could absolutely do so and still practice distancing and follow the recommendations given us.
Our church's insurance company has sent us some guidelines to follow and some tasks we should do before we do open up again. It will take some volunteer work and some planning, but it would be worth the effort, knowing that we would be that much closer to being back to worshiping TOGETHER.
Mark Hunt had a good article on Facebook recently, saying that it is time for Christians to make their voices heard to the powers that be. We have had our First Amendment rights compromised and were ok with it to a point, but it seems we are at that point and need to let the authorities know that we want to SAFELY begin to gather to worship our Lord and our God.
I DO believe in "separation of church and state," but I don't believe that means they should be allowed to continue to separate us from each other when this pandemic is very mild in our area, compared to other regions.
Please let me know what you are thinking along this line, whether by commenting here on Facebook or by texting or private messaging me. Your preacher Tom

I would like to share with you a thought from the book of James, first chapter, verses 2 through 4. "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
James says here we should count our trials "joy." I doubt that many of us are seeing much joy in the last 6 weeks, but James says when our faith is tested, we develop PERSEVERANCE. There is joy in persevering.
I would urge you to look for ways you can grow from these experiences. Our reactions to it all can make a huge difference in whether we grow or become bitter. It should be our desire to "be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
By persevering, we can come out of this stronger and have that joy of which James spoke.

Just a little while ago, I was down at the church house, & I couldn't help but think, "What a shame! God has provided this beautiful place to meet but we can't do that right now!" I started getting frustrated, but reminded myself, that is just what satan would want!"
We must remind ourselves , as I've heard & read quite often in the past weeks, GOD'S GOT THIS! The numbers they give us about this virus are staggering, even though our area here is affected very little
Instead of feeling sorry for ourselves, let's continue to pray for God to help those most affected by the virus, & for Him to intervene & bring it to an end. (His will be done, of course!) Nothing is too big for our God! There are plenty of events in the Bible that show that this is true. Just for fun, when you finish reading this, name for me in the comments, one of those events that comes to your mind.
We are anxious to get back to meeting together, but we must make sure we do so safely. In the mean time, I urge you to continue steadfastly in prayer & reading God's Word. Also, as I've said before, please, please remember those who are confined to nursing homes & other places & have no opportunity to even step outside for fresh air. This time can be doubly lonely for them!
I Peter 5:10 & 11 is pretty fitting to close with: "And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and MAKE YOU STRONG, firm and steadfast. To Him be the power for ever and ever. AMEN."

Everyone knows the old saying, 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder.' How fitting that is at this time! How strange it has been to not be gathering for Sunday School & Worship for the last 3 Sundays. And even more strange it will be tomorrow on Resurrection Sunday to not be together to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord. I encourage you to look for an online worship service. There are several available. And remember, the church is not the building. Don't get me wrong, we appreciate very much our facilities, and want very much to be able to meet there again, BUT WE, THE PEOPLE, ARE THE CHURCH!
We would all prefer to be gathered together, but we can still worship. Read the story of the Resurrection in chapter 28 of Matthew, Mark 16, Luke 24 or John 20. Have a prayer time. You can even observe the Lord's Supper by using a little cracker or tortilla and some kind of juice. The Lord will understand if it's something other than grape juice.
When we pray, let's pray for all the families who have suffered severe illness and even death from the virus. One more request would be for all those in nursing homes, skilled care, assisted living and even in their own homes who cannot get out at all, or even enjoy visits from their family. We, at least, can go get our own necessities, but some don't even have that luxury. Even if their health is good, there is a certain amount of mental anguish they deal with.
As we celebrate Easter apart, may we all thank God for the Risen Savior, Christ our Lord!

Tomorrow is Good Friday. I'm sure some people wonder, "Why do you call the day Jesus was crucified 'good'? The last few days, I have watched the movie 'The Passion of the Christ.' If you've seen this movie, you know that it is very graphic and brings out emotions that most hesitate to even deal with.
When we think of Jesus' crucifixion, we must realize that He did not endure that to be some kind of a martyr, HE ENDURED IT TO BE YOUR SAVIOR! I think of this when I hear the words of a good old southern gospel song, 'The cross in the middle should have been mine.'
Some may even read the crucifixion story and blame the officials of the day or the Roman soldiers, but we must remember Jesus' own words as this all was taking place, 'Father, forgive them. They know not what they're doing.' The real person to blame can be seen when we look in a mirror. THOSE WERE OUR SINS FOR WHICH HE WAS PUNISHED!
As we remember that Friday, may we thank God for sending His Son to die for us! And, of course, we know that the story did not end there. Stay tuned!

We all have our routines we follow most of the time. During this crisis, to say the least, many routines have been upset big time. Rest assured, things will get back to "normal" hopefully soon.
But , in the meantime, we must make sure we "continue to live in (Christ)," as Paul encourages in Colossians 2:6, 7. "So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught and OVERFLOWING WITH THANKFULNESS."

Vacation Bible School officially wrapped up a little over 13 hours ago, and I wanted to say thank you to all the wonderful help I had to make VBS a success. The kids seemed to have a good time, there were lots of smiles on their faces. We were able raise over $250 for our Mission for the week, which happened to be our Church's very own backpack program. Our numbers were down this year for VBS but as I said all week the kids were very well mannered and it was a delight to work with them. As I see it, numbers may be an instant measure, but we may not see the true success of Vacation Bible School until a few years down the road. But it was great VBS, and I had a blast once it got underway. Thanks again to everybody who helped make a great week.

Last Night we had the closing program for Vacation Bible School at Geff Christian Church. We had a great week with great kids and great help, to complete a successful VBS. All totaled we had about 27-29 different kids this week. I also would like to thank Amy Kemp for coming and telling the kids about the Oblong Children's Christian Home in Oblong, Illinois
