OBITUARY

Hugh Lawrence (Monty) Montgomery, 90, passed away on February 16, 2022, at Lily Springs Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Lampasas, Texas. He was born on January 22, 1932, in Mineola, New York to Hugh Chester Montgomery and Kalo Scofield Montgomery.

A memorial service will be held at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, 3160 S. Highway 183, Lampasas, TX, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022.

Hugh grew up in Long Island, New York, and graduated high school in 1950 from Brunswick Academy in Brunswick, New Jersey. In 1952, he joined the Air Force, served in the Korean War, and was discharged in 1959 at the rank of Sergeant. Afterward, he worked at Texas State Optical, then began a career with the U.S. Civil Service as an Aircraft Mechanic where he worked until his retirement in 1988.

Hugh married Nettie Mae Fannin on August 17, 1956, in Austin, Texas in the home of Elder W.S. Blackshear. They were happily married for 65 years. Hugh was a member of Littlevine Primitive Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, where he served as pastor for many years. He also served as pastor for many other Primitive Baptist Churches across the state of Texas, including Izoro, Eldorado, Quemado, Florence, Burnet, La Vernia, and Irving. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening with his wife. He loved his family and airplanes and was active in little league sports and the Boy Scouts.

Hugh was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Chester Montgomery, and his mother, Kalo Scofield.

Hugh is survived by his spouse, Nettie Fannin Montgomery of Lampasas, Texas; his sons, Michael Montgomery and wife Judy of Midlothian, Texas, David Montgomery and wife Leslye of San Antonio, Texas, Tim Montgomery and wife Charlotte of Cabot, Arkansas, and Paul Montgomery of Houston, Texas; brothers, Anthony Montgomery and wife Virginia of New York, NY, Chet Montgomery and wife Beverly of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; sister, Ginny Johnston of Lookout Mountain, TN, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to New Hope Primitive Baptist of Lampasas, TX.

Today, after earnest prayer and consideration, the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church of Izoro, Texas passed a motion to begin the process to disband. This decision has been heavy on our hearts and filled our prayers for some time. We are taking this step in faith, believing it serves Christ's Church better for our members to strengthen another congregation than to continue as we are. We humbly ask for your prayers as we continue through this process.

We will continue to meet on 2nd and 4th weekends until we finalize the legal process and invite you to come visit us.

This congregation has met continually since June 16, 1877. There have been many wonderful song services, prayers, and sermons throughout our almost 145 year history. We are thankful for God's grace! You can view some of the history at:

New Hope PBC canceled their annual meeting scheduled for this weekend due to COVID-19 concerns. We will still not be meeting at Izoro for the same reason. Please continue to pray for all those affected by this virus in all its variants.

We have voted to forgo services this Sunday, July 25th. Instead we will be joining our sister church, New Hope PBC in Lampasas, for their annual meeting. We hope to see you there!

Trinity PBC in Denton, TX will be hosting a singing starting at 10am on Saturday, June 12th with lunch to follow. They invite all to join!

During conference this weekend, 24 January, the church called Elder Joshua Brown as Pastor. Elder Brown was baptized into the Church at Izoro on August 25, 1991, by his uncle, Elder Bill Moseley, under the care of then Pastor, Elder Hugh Montgomery.

We would like to inform everyone that we have canceled services scheduled for this Sunday out of an abundance of caution.
