Good morning! We hope everyone is staying warm!

Here is a devotion from Pastor Norma Roberts!

Psalm46:10
Heavenly Father, we need a 46:10 day. Amen.
“He says, “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Can you sit in quiet?
I often feel that God gives us times of quiet so we can hear Him.
We often think of prayer as talking.

The faith spread through this nation back in the 1700’s and 1800’s by the circuit riding preachers. They rode from area to area on horseback holding camp meeting and brush arbor revivals. People came to know the LORD. Churches began to form. They would ride from place to place, helping get the fire of faith started, then journey on to another, and hopefully be able to make it back around.
The story is told of one circuit rider, as he rode along one afternoon, came upon a man working in the field, plowing with a mule. “Fine day, isn’t it?” He called out to the farmer.
“It’s a fine day for you”, the farmer replied. “All you have to do is ride around on that horse all day, thinking about God. Meanwhile, I am out here in the field, sweating and working, and walk home afterwards. I do not think that is right. I have it so hard, while you have it so easy.”
The preacher responded: “You are right. You do work hard. I do a different kind of work.
And it is harder than you think.”
The farmer replied, “What’s hard about that?”
“Oh, its harder than you think it would be,” replied the preacher.
Thinking of a way to make his point, the preacher said, “I tell you what. Just to show you how difficult it is to ‘think about God and nothing else’, --if you can think about God and nothing else for 1 minute—I will give you my horse.”
“You cannot be serious,” said the farmer.
But the circuit riding preacher assured him he was surely serious.
“Alright then,” the farmer said. And he sat down on the side of the row to wait out the time.
The circuit rider pulled out his watch to mark the time.
Ten seconds went by….then twenty seconds…..then thirty seconds.
About then, the farmer looked up at the preacher and said,
“Does that include the saddle?”
All he had to do was think about God for a minute.
But he could not do it.

Why is silence so difficult? Many people play the TV or radio all day long. Its never off.
And I will let you in on something, a lot of precious time with God is lost.
God is not going to yell over the TV. Noise will never bring you closer to God.
Remember the still, small voice that spoke to Elijah on the Mount of Horeb? 1 Kings 19
God wants for you, comfortable silence with him. When you are at peace with God, you do not mind the silence. That is truth.
Many of us have had the experience of a young child, climbing into our laps, to just sit there and be held and comforted. There is no asking for anything. They just want to be held and loved. They want to feel your care and concern that goes beyond words. They want that security. That is the image of “Be still and know” that we need today. Can you sit quietly and put yourself in that image on the lap of God? Even for 60 seconds?
Can you do so for the people that you are praying for, to imagine them on the lap of God, being held and comforted? Those with broken bones and broken hearts feeling the comfort and power of Almighty God.

Oh Heavenly Father,
How you love us. How you seek to comfort us and sustain us.
In this time, let our hearts be open to you, Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Psalm 37:7
“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”
