Genesis 12: 1-9

The Call of Abram

Ge 12:1 The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.
Ge 12:2 “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
Ge 12:3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
Ge 12:4 So Abram left, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran.
Ge 12:5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.
Ge 12:6 Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land.
Ge 12:7 The LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.
Ge 12:8 From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD.
Ge 12:9 Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev.

Psalm 33: 1-12

Ps 33:1 Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
Ps 33:2 Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Ps 33:3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.

Ps 33:4 For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.
Ps 33:5 The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love.

Ps 33:6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
Ps 33:7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses.
Ps 33:8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him.
Ps 33:9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.
Ps 33:10 The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.
Ps 33:11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.

Ps 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.

Romans 4: 14-25

Ro 4:14 For if those who live by law are heirs, faith has no value and the promise is worthless,
Ro 4:15 because law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression.
Ro 4:16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.
Ro 4:17 As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.
Ro 4:18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”
Ro 4:19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead.
Ro 4:20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,
Ro 4:21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.
Ro 4:22 This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.”
Ro 4:23 The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone,
Ro 4:24 but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.
Ro 4:25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

Matthew 9: 9-13, 18-26

The Calling of Matthew

Mt 9:9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
Mt 9:10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and “sinners” came and ate with him and his disciples.
Mt 9:11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?”
Mt 9:12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.
Mt 9:13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

A Dead Girl and a Sick Woman

Mt 9:18 While he was saying this, a ruler came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.”
Mt 9:19 Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples.
Mt 9:20 Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.
Mt 9:21 She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
Mt 9:22 Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.
Mt 9:23 When Jesus entered the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd,
Mt 9:24 he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him.
Mt 9:25 After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up.
Mt 9:26 News of this spread through all that region.

Genesis 1:1-2-4

The Beginning

Ge 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Ge 1:2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

Ge 1:3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Ge 1:4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
Ge 1:5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
Ge 1:6 And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.”
Ge 1:7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so.
Ge 1:8 God called the expanse “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning —the second day.
Ge 1:9 And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so.
Ge 1:10 God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
Ge 1:11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so.
Ge 1:12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
Ge 1:13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
Ge 1:14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years,
Ge 1:15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so.
Ge 1:16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.
Ge 1:17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth,
Ge 1:18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.
Ge 1:19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
Ge 1:20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.”
Ge 1:21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
Ge 1:22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”
Ge 1:23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
Ge 1:24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so.
Ge 1:25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
Ge 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
Ge 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
Ge 1:28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
Ge 1:29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.
Ge 1:30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
Ge 1:31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Ge 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

Ge 2:2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
Ge 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Adam and Eve

Ge 2:4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created.

When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens—

Psalm 8

Ps 8:1 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens.
Ps 8:2 From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.

Ps 8:3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
Ps 8:4 what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?
Ps 8:5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.

Ps 8:6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet:
Ps 8:7 all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field,
Ps 8:8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.

Ps 8:9 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

2 Corinthians 13: 11-13

Final Greetings

2Co 13:11 Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
2Co 13:12 Greet one another with a holy kiss.
2Co 13:13 All the saints send their greetings.

Matthew 28: 16-20

The Great Commission

Mt 28:16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.
Mt 28:17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.
Mt 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Mt 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Mt 28:20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
