Our devotion this morning came to us from Leo Sketo. Leo wanted to follow on with a theme from Wayne's devotion yesterday. Men who were favored by God and who never lost their faith even in trials. One of the men that came to Leo's mind was our brother Job. God held Job in incredibly high regard. He praised Job as "blameless and upright," Leo asked the question, "How does God look at each of us? As "faithful servants"? Upright?
We know the story of when God asks Satan what he has been doing, Satan replies that he has been roaming the earth. God then brings up Job, a wealthy, blameless man known for his deep integrity. Satan effectively "applies" for a job by pitching a wager to God. He argues that Job only serves God because God has "put a protective fence around him" and given him a blessed life. Satan claims that if God strips away Jobβs wealth, health, and family, Job will curse God to his face. So Satan begins to work on Job and in a single day, Job loses his livestock, his servants, and all ten of his children in a series of devastating tragedies. Despite his immense grief, Job does not curse God. We all know the rest of the story how Job remain faithful even in the continued extreme loss that followed.
In Job 1:21: Job says, "The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord."
Today let us all be thankful that we are clothed in the righteousness of Our Savior, Jesus Christ, and God can look on each one of us as we faithfully stive to serve him! Let us all endeavor the hardships of life like Job and never waiver in our faith, service, and worship of Our Lord!
"I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth." Job 19:25 NIV
