We’re gathering together in a special way this fall.

On Saturday, September 19, The Garrison Institute is hosting a daylong community event open to our donors and supporters: contemplative practice and breakfast in the morning, time in nature, lunch, and a keynote conversation between Co-Founder and Board Chair Jonathan F.P. Rose and author + podcast host Dan Harris. Early bird tickets: $90 through June 30.

This event is one of the ways we celebrate the community that makes the work possible, including the scholarship recipients whose stories we’ve been sharing this spring.

Join us on August 1, 2026 for Sound & Somatics: Be In Resonance & Listen To The Body, an in-person half-day retreat of sound, embodiment, and rest.

Through somatic practice, connection with the land, and an immersive sound bath, Orlando Villarraga and Maria Tan will guide a spacious experience of grounding, recalibration, and inner listening. This gathering is an invitation to slow down, settle into yourself, and attune to what becomes possible when you listen to the language of the body.

“Stepping away from the busy-ness of your life, into an environment that allows you to bear witness to all that has been (and is) churning inside of you... is more valuable than anything else in this world.”

Those are the feelings shared by a person who attended a Garrison Institute retreat on scholarship.

We’re working to make sure more people have access to that experience this year. Our goal: $30,000 in scholarship funding by the end of 2026.

Step out of the old storyline and into something fresher.

Join us September 4–7, 2026 for Starting Over: Stepping Out of Old Stories Into New Experiences, a Labor Day weekend retreat with DharmaPunx NYC at the Garrison Institute. Through meditation, movement, Dharma teachings, and time outdoors, we’ll practice interrupting familiar patterns and meeting the moment with more curiosity, flexibility, and ease.

Led by Josh Korda and Kathy Cherry, this in-person retreat welcomes both new and experienced practitioners. It’s a chance to reset, reconnect with the body and breath, and discover what becomes possible when we stop gripping the stories that no longer serve us.

A limited number of partial scholarships are available. Learn more and register at the link in bio.

What does a scholarship actually do? It means a caregiver who has been pouring herself into others for years finally gets to ask: What do I need?
It means a restorative justice advocate discovers, for the first time at 50, what she called “rest beyond recovery.”
It means an activist in recovery finds a room full of people who understand and realizes she’s not alone.

This spring, we’re raising $30,000 to fund scholarships for Garrison Institute retreats and programs. Every dollar goes directly to someone who couldn’t otherwise be in the room.

In the latest episode of The Garrison Institute Presents: The Common Good, join Cynthia Bourgeault and David Frenette for a rich and intimate conversation on Centering Prayer, nondual consciousness, and the spiritual legacy of Father Thomas Keating.

Recorded in person at the Garrison Institute, the dialogue explores prayer not as escape from the world, but as a path toward compassion, surrender, and deeper participation in reality. Drawing from decades of teaching and friendship with Keating, Bourgeault and Frenette reflect on awakening, letting go, and learning to fully inhabit the present moment.

In a time of uncertainty and pressure on our communities, it is vital for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color to have safe spaces for refuge and collective care.

This retreat offers mindfulness and embodied practices to explore and transform fear, helping us stay present and draw on communal wisdom.

In the latest episode of The Garrison Institute Presents: The Common Good, cultural ecologist David Abram joins Jonathan F.P. Rose for a wide-ranging conversation on ecological consciousness and our living reciprocity with the more-than-human world.

Drawing on philosophy, Indigenous wisdom, and lived experience, Abram challenges the human-centered mindset of the Anthropocene and invites a return to ecological humility. From the air we breathe to the bodies we inhabit, he explores what it means to remember our kinship with Earth and to live within a deeper ethic of interdependence.

Together, they explore:
• The meaning of the “more-than-human world”
• Why ecological humility matters in a time of planetary crisis
• Consanguinity, mutuality, and the ethics of interdependence
• The lost role of mediators between human and nonhuman worlds
• How modern disconnection has shaped our relationship with the living Earth
