Letter from your pastors,
Hello, United Church family. It’s hard to believe that Brian and I have been serving United Church for almost eight years! The journey that began as a new adventure has led to a deeper, joyful commitment to pastoral ministry. If someone had told me this was the path God had in mind, that I would get ordained and be an elder in the Dakotas Conference, I am not sure if I would have believed them. But here we are, eight years later. Our hearts are full, and we are deeply grateful for our relationships with all of you and the love of Christ we share. We serve a generous God, full of the best kind of surprises!

Our commitment to discipleship is rooted and expressed locally, yet it transcends the local church because God’s church is universal. In the United Methodist Church, pastors are appointed by the bishop to a local church. This is an important distinction in the United Methodist church. By submitting to the call, we are saying YES to his leading and serving his people wherever that may be.

While we were in Korea, we received a call from Brandon, our DS, about a new appointment. We have officially been appointed to Hartford United Methodist as their pastoral team. Brian will serve ¼ time; I will serve ¾ time at Hartford and ¼ time as a Spiritual Director and Reflective Pastoral Supervisor. Together, we will continue our call to preach, teach, lead, and shepherd God’s people.

Even as we look forward to what God has for the Hartford family and United Church of Garretson, we can’t help but feel sad about this transition. This sadness reflects our deep love and affection for you all.

We are so thankful for the relationships we forged, the ministry we did together, the vision we committed to, and the many stories, laughter, and tears we shared. God brought us to United Church during the most difficult season of our lives, and serving you was a visible reminder of God’s faithfulness, grace, hope, goodness, and love. Thank you, church, for loving us, trusting our leadership, and sharing in God’s work. Thank you for your faithfulness and discipleship in the name of Jesus Christ. The work continues!

Just as God has been faithful to you in the past, we trust he will continue to provide for you as you make the transition. As you welcomed us, I know you will do the same for the next pastor God calls to serve this beautiful congregation. Church, continue to love God with all your heart, mind, and strength, and to love one another as God has commanded. May the love of God be your distinguishing mark in the community of Garretson and toward one another. Work together toward the common goal of loving God and serving others.
We will be serving you until July 12th. Let us leave you with Paul’s words to the Philippian church.

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
