Settled in the 1850s, on September 6, 1859, a post office was established for Scipio, Kansas.
The mostly German Catholic population never grew, and by 1905 the post office closed.
Today, it is still home to the beautiful St. Boniface Catholic Church and the old Mount Carmel College, which still stands.
