What if the Bible could be read in simple, clear, everyday English…
while still being anchored to historic biblical source texts?
That is the purpose of the MCE Canon Rendered Bible.
MCE stands for Midwestern Contemporary English.
It is designed for about a 6th-grade reading comprehension level, using plain English, direct sentence structure, and consistent core-word rendering.
The goal is not to water Scripture down.
The goal is to make Scripture understood.
What Makes MCE Different
Many readers struggle with Bible language because the words feel distant, formal, or hard to follow.
The MCE Canon Rendered project keeps the biblical message direct and clear.
Instead of overly academic wording, it uses simple English.
Instead of constantly changing key terms, it uses a core-word authority method.
That means important biblical words are rendered consistently so readers can follow doctrine, prophecy, commands, warnings, and promises across the whole canon.
This helps families, students, new believers, teachers, and study groups read with more confidence.
Textual Foundation
The New Testament of MCE is rendered from the Stephanus 1550 Textus Receptus.
That places the New Testament in the historic received-text tradition.
The Old Testament is rendered from the Masoretic Hebrew Text, the traditional Hebrew textual foundation of the Old Testament.
Together, the project creates a full-canon English rendering with:
clear language,
consistent vocabulary,
and respect for the underlying source text tradition.
Reading Level and Style
MCE uses a Midwestern Contemporary English style.
That means the wording is practical, plain, and easy to hear out loud.
It avoids unnecessary religious jargon when a simpler core meaning can be carried clearly.
For example, doctrinal words are rendered into plain concepts:
“Repent” becomes change your thinking.
“Holy” becomes set apart.
“Spirit” becomes life breath.
“Gospel” becomes good message.
“Kingdom” becomes kingdom rule.
“Righteousness” becomes right living.
The result is Scripture that can be read, heard, taught, and understood by everyday people.
