Sin rarely announces itself as something that wants to destroy us.

It often begins small.

A thought we entertain.
A habit we excuse.
A temptation we stop fighting.
A compromise we learn to live with.

But John Owen gave Christians a warning that leaves little room for complacency:

**“Be killing sin, or it will be killing you.”**

The Christian life isn't about making peace with sin. It's about continually bringing it into the light, confessing it, resisting it, and putting it to death through the power of the Spirit.

📖 **“Put to death therefore what is earthly in you.” — Colossians 3:5**

And one of our greatest weapons in that fight is God's Word.

Jesus answered temptation with Scripture. We should learn to do the same.

When temptation comes, have truth already hidden in your heart—ready to remind you who God is, what He has commanded, and who you are in Christ.

**Don't feed what Christ calls you to fight.
Know the Word. Resist sin. Pursue holiness.**

They share practical ideas for:

• using mnemonic and visual memory tools
• reciting lists and genealogies without losing your audience
• using pacing, emphasis, and body language well
• trusting God when you don’t fully understand every detail

One of Jeremy’s strongest reminders is this:

“God calls us to obedience, not results.”

That’s one of the beautiful things about God’s Word. We never outgrow it. The more we read it, study it, and memorize it, the more we begin to see.

Prayer is one of the simplest things a Christian can do—and one of the easiest things to neglect.

Samuel Chadwick understood the spiritual significance of that neglect:

**“The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying.”**

Think about how easily prayer gets crowded out.

We get busy.
We get distracted.
We tell ourselves we'll pray later.
We try to solve everything in our own strength.

Yet Scripture continually calls us back to dependence upon God.

📖 **“Pray without ceasing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17**

Prayer isn't our last resort when everything else fails. It is an expression of our dependence upon the One who never fails.

And when God's Word is hidden in our hearts, it gives substance to our prayers. We begin praying His promises, His truth, and His will rather than relying only on our own words.

**Open the Word.
Get on your knees.
Keep praying.**

Even Jesus needed some quiet time. 😂

And with twelve disciples, maybe we understand why.

Jokes aside, Jesus regularly withdrew from the noise and demands around Him to spend time with His Father.

**“But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.” — Luke 5:16**

If Jesus intentionally made time to pray, we probably shouldn’t expect our spiritual lives to thrive on leftovers.

Make time for prayer. Make time for the Word. 🙏📖

Pride has a hard time surviving when we see clearly.
The more we understand who God is, the more we realize how small we are before His greatness.
And the more honestly we understand ourselves, the less reason we have to boast.
John Flavel put it beautifully:
“They that know God will be humble; they that know themselves cannot be proud.”
Humility isn't thinking that we have no value. It's seeing ourselves rightly in the light of who God is—recognizing that every gift, every ability, every opportunity, and every breath ultimately comes from Him.
Scripture continually brings us back to that perspective.
📖 “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” — James 4:6
The more of God's Word we hide in our hearts, the more clearly we see His greatness, our dependence, and our need for grace.
Know His Word. Know Him better. Walk humbly.
