Waiting. None of us likes to wait. As a boy I would often complain to my mom: “I can’t wait any more!” — to which she would reply, “Then don’t!”

How different it would be if we didn’t have to wait. But actually, we move through a world that says we don’t have to wait for anything — instant food, instant entertainment, instant pain relief.

But something’s lost when we don’t have to wait. We lose an appreciation for lingering in the moment — and being present in life rather than mindlessly churning our way through just to get through.

Today we’re invited to wait… to move through a task slowly, and mindfully — savoring the experience of renewed strength and appreciation for this precious life.

“Faith is courage for what can’t yet be seen.” We have yet to see Peace — but it is there. Have courage today — and every day — to embrace and live the truth of Jesus Christ — that the only way to peace is love. Not a love connected only with gushy, sweet emotions — but a love for all that stands solid with the conviction: Violence never was and never will be God’s will.

Too often, Christians are given the false impression that God should never be questioned — as if that would be a sign of doubt and weak faith. The truth, however, is that God welcomes questions and doubt — for we actually draw closer to God in the process. Case in point: John 4:5-42. A woman peppers questions at Jesus and, in the process, comes to realize who he is — and who she is in him. This one who questioned and doubted became one of the most effective witnesses to the Gospel!

Our Story

Axe Memorial United Methodist has served the Garland area community of faith since 1951. We blend a loyalty to our faith tradition with a desire to relevantly serve our emerging new community of faith with innovation and grace. Our Senior Pastor Levy LaGuardia and his wife Terry invite you to join us for a great message and will make you feel at home with friends. We are best known for having an extended family sense of caring for one another, an excellent program in music, youth, and senior citizen outreach, numerous mission outreaches, community involvement, and strong Bible study opportunities. Our church has a very busy homeless and needy food bank called Hearts and Hands. Axe Memorial UMC is also part of the GLOWS program here in Garland that provides shelter during inclement weather to anyone who needs help when the temps drop down low. We also have an active United Methodist Women(UMW) and a United Methodist Men(UMM) program. Our 9:30 AM English worship service in our Sanctuary is a blend of traditional and contemporary music, there is a Spanish Service held at 11:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall. We also have a Praise Service the first Sunday night of each month. Check us out!!
