Meet our Ministry partner Precious!
“My Name is Precious Myeni-Matsebula. I am married and have a 4 year old daughter named Ayethaba Matsebula. I am from Eswatini and am 32 years old! I was raised by both parents and am the oldest of 10 siblings. In April of 2010, my father passed away leaving my mother and her children behind. My mother and we children were left to live with my father’s extended family where my grandmother, uncles, aunties, and cousins all lived. My mother faced many trials and still lives today as a widow. She raised us by herself without any help from family. There were times when we would go to bed without food. I would have to go to school without lunch or pocket money. I would often have to skip classes because my mother did not have enough money to send me and my siblings to school.
My mother’s side of the family, including my grandmother and uncles, were just as verbally and emotionally abusive, as they now viewed her as a burden. To them, she had lost her husband and had no one to provide for the children. Her love for God and her children is what pushed her to keep going through such difficult times.
With all of this happening as the older sister in the house, a lot of the responsibilities were put on me. My mom would often try to hide that she was struggling but I could see everything that she was going though. This greatly affected me at school. My grades began to decline and in my heart I longed to be able to help my mom in anyway I could, but I was so young. Sometimes I would skip school because I didn’t have basic necessities. I would have to walk bare foot to school because I didn’t have shoes. Having been through all these hardships, I chose to follow God when I was very young because in our house, we were raised to trust God. We would pray everyday in the evening and would meet with our mom to sing to God and pray together. Even though we faced so much, I knew that God was the only way we would make it through.
I got married in 2019 to my husband Mkhumbuzi Matsebula. As we were praying, God continued reminding me of my background. God was sending me back to the places I knew so well. To the widows and needy children- His heart.
I now run a widows ministry where I help create a safe space for women to come together and share their experiences, to help one another in the struggles that they are facing. For them to know they never have to face it alone, especially when they know Jesus. I created classes that that help widows to learn a trade to generate money to support their families. These are things like crocheting, baking, etc. There are usually around 18+ widows per community. Supplies and transport are actively needed to continue to make an impact on the ones the Father loves!
I also oversee a children’s ministry focused to meet their basic needs, such as food, water, toiletries, clothes, school needs, and teaching them the love of Christ. I do not want to see a child struggle in any way, but especially how I struggled. I believe God has trusted me to take care of the less privileged children because it used to be me. Continual support is still needed to help continue to meet these needs!
Through it all, I hold on to the Word of God. “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
James 1:2-4
I believe God can do and will do miraculous things here in Eswatini through your love, prayers, and support. We worship God by giving Him all the praise and loving those who He holds close to His heart. Thank you!”
