We’re starting a spring/summer Journey through the book of Acts on Sunday nights.

This is a chance to slow down and actually walk through how the early Church lived, preached, handled pressure, and stayed faithful as the gospel moved forward.

Elder Randy Cook will be leading the study each week. If you’ve never sat under his teaching, this is a great opportunity. He’s steady, thoughtful, and committed to the Word.

If you want to grow in your understanding of Scripture, this is a good place to start. If you’ve been around church for a long time, this will ground you again in what really matters.

Come ready to open your Bible and engage.

Friday — Free Indeed
John 8:36
“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
The world talks a lot about freedom, but most of what it calls freedom is just bo***ge with a better name. It tells people that freedom is doing whatever they want, answering to nobody, defining truth for themselves, and throwing off restraint. But Jesus tells us something very different. Real freedom is not found in self-rule. It is found in the Son. He does not say that education will make you free, or discipline will make you free, or even religion will make you free. He says, “If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” That means freedom is not something we manufacture. It is something Christ does. He steps into the prison house of sin, shame, fear, and deception, and He breaks what we could never break on our own.
That is why this matters so much. A lot of people are not truly free, they are just learning how to function with chains on. They know how to look put together while carrying hidden anger, hidden lust, hidden bitterness, hidden pride, hidden fear. They learn to manage what Jesus came to destroy. But Christ did not go to the cross so we could become polished captives. He came to set us free. He came to break the guilt of sin, the power of sin, and the lies that have ruled over people for years. When Jesus frees a person, He does not merely improve them. He transforms them. He changes their standing, their identity, and their future.
That does not mean there is no battle. It does mean the battle has changed. The believer is not a slave trying to become a son. He is a son learning to stand in what Christ has already purchased. That is a very different fight. So do not make peace with what Jesus died to break. Do not settle into patterns Christ has already called bo***ge. Bring the hidden thing into the light. Come honestly to Jesus again. Open His Word again. Believe again that His power is greater than your history, greater than your weakness, and greater than the voice that says you will never change. If the Son makes you free, you are not partly free, temporarily free, or emotionally stirred for a moment. You are free indeed.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I do not want to live as a captive where You have promised freedom. Search me, expose what needs to be exposed, and break what needs to be broken. Teach me to stand in the freedom You purchased and to walk in it by the power of Your Spirit. Amen.

Thursday — Let the Word Land
John 8:37, 47
“My word has no place in you.”
“He who is of God hears God’s words.”
One of the most sobering marks in John 8 is this: the Word of God can be present around someone without ever finding a home in them.
That ought to shake us.
It is possible to sit in church and never really hear. It is possible to know verses and remain untouched. It is possible to discuss theology and still keep your heart barricaded from the living voice of God.
Jesus says, “My word has no place in you.” What an indictment. The issue was not lack of exposure. The issue was lack of reception.
This is where we have to let the Spirit search us. Does God’s Word land in me? Does it correct me? Does it move me? Does it interrupt me? Or has familiarity bred resistance? Have I become skilled at hearing sermons without surrender? Skilled at reading Scripture without trembling? Skilled at saying “amen” while staying exactly the same?
The sheep hear His voice. There is a recognition in the heart of a person born of God. Not perfection. Not instant maturity. But there is hearing. There is response. There is a willingness to be confronted and comforted by the truth.
Ask yourself today: where has the Word been bouncing off? What area have you kept sealed? What command have you admired without obeying? What conviction have you been postponing?
Do not harden. Open the door. Let the Word have a place in you.
Because when God’s Word is received, it does not come as dead information. It comes as life. It comes as light. It comes as a hammer that breaks the rock and as bread that feeds the hungry soul.
Prayer:
Lord, do not let Your Word pass over me without effect. Break through every hard place in my heart. Give me ears to hear and a spirit quick to obey. Amen.

Wednesday — Slave or Son
John 8:34–36
“Whoever commits sin is a slave of sin… Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
Jesus does not flatter people. He loves too deeply for that.
He says plainly that the one who lives in sin is not free. He is a slave. That is offensive to the flesh because we like to imagine ourselves in control. We call it a struggle, a weakness, a bad habit, a personality trait. Jesus calls it what it is when it rules us: slavery.
And then He gives one of the most beautiful contrasts in all of Scripture. A slave does not abide in the house forever. A son does.
That is more than poetry. That is the Gospel.
The slave has no security. No inheritance. No permanence. He is around the house, but he does not belong to it. But the son has a place at the table. The son is not there because he earned it. He is there because of relationship.
This is where many believers live far below what Christ purchased. They know forgiveness in theory, but they still think like slaves. They still approach God like hired servants trying to avoid being thrown out. They still pray with fear. They still obey with insecurity. They still live as though one failure means they no longer belong.
But Jesus says freedom is not merely being let off the hook. Freedom is being brought into the house.
You are not being invited into better behavior management. You are being invited into sonship. Into belonging. Into permanence in the Father’s house through the Son.
This is why the Gospel is so powerful. Jesus does not just loosen chains. He changes families. He brings you out from the rule of sin and under the love of the Father.
Stand in that today. Not as a slave begging for scraps. As a son welcomed by grace.
Prayer:
Father, drive the spirit of slavery out of me. Let me live in the security of sonship. Thank You that in Christ I am not merely tolerated. I am brought near. Amen.

Tuesday — The Lie of False Freedom
John 8:32–33“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”“They answered Him, ‘We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bo***ge to anyone.’”
This is one of the great contradictions of the human heart. People can be deeply bound and still insist they are free.
That is the deception of sin. It blinds before it binds, and then it blinds you to the fact that you are bound.
The men in John 8 say something almost unbelievable: “We have never been in bo***ge to anyone.” This is the same people whose history runs through Egypt, Babylon, and now Rome. But bo***ge has a way of rewriting memory. Pride makes people deny the obvious. And that same thing still happens now.
People say, “I’m free,” while being mastered by lust. “I’m free,” while anger controls the house. “I’m free,” while anxiety dictates every decision. “I’m free,” while approval from other people determines whether they stand or fall that day.
This is why truth matters. Not truth as a slogan. Not truth as an intellectual exercise. Truth as the living voice of Jesus cutting through denial. Truth names the cage. Truth tears off the mask. Truth says, “That thing you defend is the very thing draining your life.”
The mercy of God is that He does not expose us to shame us. He exposes us to free us.
Do not be afraid of what the Lord reveals. Be afraid of what remains hidden because you refuse to let Him touch it. Real freedom begins when we stop arguing with Jesus and start agreeing with Him.
Lord, search us. Tell us the truth about ourselves. Better a painful truth that leads to freedom than a comfortable lie that keeps us chained.
Prayer:Jesus, save me from false freedom. Expose every lie I have believed about my life, my sin, and my condition. Give me grace to welcome truth, even when it cuts. Amen.

Monday — Abide, Don’t Visit
John 8:31
“If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.”
There is a difference between visiting the Word and living in it.
A lot of people visit Scripture the way they stop by a gas station. Quick fill-up. Quick thought. Quick verse. Then back to life as usual. But Jesus does not say, “If you occasionally reference My word, you are My disciples indeed.” He says, if you abide. Stay. Remain. Make your home there.
We live in a world discipled by noise. Everybody has a voice. Everybody has a take. Everybody has a narrative they are trying to press into your soul. And if you are not abiding in the Word, you will be shaped by something else. Your fears will disciple you. Your wounds will disciple you. Culture will disciple you. Offense will disciple you. But only the Word of Christ can anchor you in truth.
Abiding is not glamorous. It is daily. It is often quiet. It is opening the Bible when your emotions are loud and letting God speak higher than your feelings. It is staying with the text long enough that it starts reading you. It is refusing to build your life on impulse.
Some people want freedom without abiding. Jesus gives no such category. Freedom comes downstream from remaining. Truth comes to those who stay. Stability comes to those who keep showing up. Sonship becomes deep in people who learn to live under the voice of Jesus.
Do not just admire the Word. Move in and take up residence.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to abide and not just visit. Quiet the other voices in my life and make Your Word my dwelling place. Root me in truth. Form me by Your voice. Amen.
