This morning I mentioned at church that yesterday I joined others at the Ridglan Farms protest in Wisconsin, advocating for beagles who have spent their lives in research and breeding facilities.
What I also meant to mention is the good news.
There used to be 2,000 beagles there and now 1,500 of those beagles have already been released and are finding their way into loving homes, warm beds, and caring families. And tomorrow, more dogs are expected to begin that journey toward freedom. We won’t stop until every one of them is free!
Whatever our viewpoints on advocacy, I think we can all celebrate this: lives are being changed.
Every dog deserves kindness.
Every animal deserves compassion.
And every act of love matters.
Each, created by God and God loves His Creation and creatures!
Today I’m holding gratitude for the rescuers, transporters, foster families, adopters, and all those working behind the scenes to give these dogs a second chance.
I was scared to go but I’m glad I did. I did it in honor of Laika, who, nearly 70 years ago, was betrayed by being sent out into space and died alone and after many hours, even days. She was chosen for her trust and friendliness. Since I can’t help her directly, I can help others in her honor.
Today, thousands of beagles are getting the chance Laika never had—the chance to run, play, be loved, and simply be dogs.”
