This morning I mentioned at church that yesterday I joined others at the Ridglan Farms protest in Wisconsin, advocating for beagles who have spent their lives in research and breeding facilities.

What I also meant to mention is the good news.

There used to be 2,000 beagles there and now 1,500 of those beagles have already been released and are finding their way into loving homes, warm beds, and caring families. And tomorrow, more dogs are expected to begin that journey toward freedom. We won’t stop until every one of them is free!

Whatever our viewpoints on advocacy, I think we can all celebrate this: lives are being changed.

Every dog deserves kindness.
Every animal deserves compassion.
And every act of love matters.
Each, created by God and God loves His Creation and creatures!

Today I’m holding gratitude for the rescuers, transporters, foster families, adopters, and all those working behind the scenes to give these dogs a second chance.

I was scared to go but I’m glad I did. I did it in honor of Laika, who, nearly 70 years ago, was betrayed by being sent out into space and died alone and after many hours, even days. She was chosen for her trust and friendliness. Since I can’t help her directly, I can help others in her honor.

Today, thousands of beagles are getting the chance Laika never had—the chance to run, play, be loved, and simply be dogs.”

As I read this beautiful devotional, “Eyes on the Prize” by Vince Amlin, I couldn’t help but think about our upcoming Bright & Early Prayer Walk on Saturday, May 23rd at 5:30 AM.

There is something sacred about walking a place slowly and prayerfully.

Not rushing through it.
Not simply passing by.
But truly seeing it.

The homes.
The fields.
The quiet streets before sunrise.
The people carrying burdens we may never fully know.
The animals and birds waking with the morning light.
The beauty.
The grief.
The hope.
The sacred shifts unfolding in our lives and in our church.

In the devotional, Vince writes about walking and praying through the places we inhabit — tracing blessings across the land and remembering that God’s eyes are already upon everything.

That feels deeply connected to what we hope to do together in Garden Prairie.

Not because we have all the answers.
Not because everything is certain.
But because prayer changes how we see.

And perhaps that is part of what this season is about:

learning to look at our church, our community, our lives, and one another with softer eyes…braver hearts…and renewed hope for where God may be leading next.

So if your heart has been longing for quiet…
for connection…for healing…for fresh air and sacred company before the day begins…come walk with us.

As the devotional says:

“Wherever your eyes fall, God’s are already on it.”

Hope to see you bright and early. 💛

Pray for the places you are in today. Run your eyes over your block. Scan the four corners of your room. And know that wherever your eyes fall, God’s eyes are already on it.
