In-person early voting is available today! June 2 is the last day to vote in-person or to return your vote-by-mail ballot.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops recommends the following steps to form your conscience to make political decisions:

Be Open to the Truth and What is Right: Approach political decisions with a genuine openness to truth and justice.

Study Sacred Scripture and Church Teaching: Ground your understanding in the Bible and the rich tradition of the Church’s teachings.

Examine the Facts and Background Information: Critically evaluate the information surrounding political issues and candidates.

Prayerfully Reflect: Seek God’s guidance through prayer, discerning His will in your political choices (Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, no. 18).

Also check out the link below for helpful guidance from the California Catholic Conference on using the principles of Catholic Social Teaching to inform your voting decisions.

Don't forget to vote!

“Everything, then, depends on our ability to see the need for a change of heart, attitudes and lifestyles. Otherwise, political propaganda, the media and the shapers of public opinion will continue to promote an individualistic and uncritical culture subservient to unregulated economic interests a...

Not everyone is called to foster or adopt, but we are all called to support the most vulnerable among us, including children who are removed from their family of origin.

One of the ways you can get involved is by raising awareness and accompanying foster families. Springs of Love is a national Catholic ministry that is doing just that.

If you would like to learn more about their ministry and how you can help support children in foster care and those who care for them, go to www.springsoflove.org/dioceseoforange

May is the Month of Mary!

She is our compassionate, attentive, patient, and nurturing mother who is interceding for us and all of our needs. This month, we are encouraged to honor her in a special way and to grow in our devotion to our spiritual mother.

St. Joseph, pray for us!

Today is the Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker.

In the Apostolic Letter Patris Corde (With a Father's Heart), Pope Francis reflects on Saint Joseph as a model of dignified labor:

"An aspect of Saint Joseph that has been emphasized from the time of the first social Encyclical, Pope Leo XIII’s Rerum Novarum, is his relation to work. Saint Joseph was a carpenter who earned an honest living to provide for his family. From him, Jesus learned the value, the dignity and the joy of what it means to eat bread that is the fruit of one’s own labour.

In our own day, when employment has once more become a burning social issue, and unemployment at times reaches record levels even in nations that for decades have enjoyed a certain degree of prosperity, there is a renewed need to appreciate the importance of dignified work, of which Saint Joseph is an exemplary patron.

Work is a means of participating in the work of salvation, an opportunity to hasten the coming of the Kingdom, to develop our talents and abilities, and to put them at the service of society and fraternal communion. It becomes an opportunity for the fulfilment not only of oneself, but also of that primary cell of society which is the family. A family without work is particularly vulnerable to difficulties, tensions, estrangement and even break-up. How can we speak of human dignity without working to ensure that everyone is able to earn a decent living?

Working persons, whatever their job may be, are cooperating with God himself, and in some way become creators of the world around us. The crisis of our time, which is economic, social, cultural and spiritual, can serve as a summons for all of us to rediscover the value, the importance and necessity of work for bringing about a new “normal” from which no one is excluded. Saint Joseph’s work reminds us that God himself, in becoming man, did not disdain work. The loss of employment that affects so many of our brothers and sisters, and has increased as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, should serve as a summons to review our priorities. Let us implore Saint Joseph the Worker to help us find ways to express our firm conviction that no young person, no person at all, no family should be without work!" - Pope Francis, Patris Corde,

"We live in a culture that idolizes productivity, efficiency, and independence, often measuring a person by what he or she can do. . . . We may sometimes be tempted to believe that a person’s identity lies in what the world values. But God's love—individual, real, unchanging—is the true source of our identity. Because His love will never change, nothing can reduce our God-given dignity, and nothing can diminish the immeasurable worth of our lives."
