Packing with a Purpose

On Sunday August 10, members of the Ethical Society of Long Island gathered to fill backpacks filled with school supplies for children in foster care supported by Hope for Youth .
This heartfelt initiative was made possible through a grant from The Joseph and Rhoda Weill Social Action Fund which members of the society had successfully applied for. Our efforts aim to ensure that these children start the school year with the tools they need to thrive--demonstrating the power of community and compassion in action

This talk delves into my personal perspective on the intersection of Ethical Humanism and the practice of prayer. While Ethical Humanism is fundamentally non-theistic, the role of prayer-or its secular equivalents-remains a nuanced topic. I will explore how, as an Ethical Humanist, I cultivate meaning, connection, and purpose, redefining prayer in ways that align with humanist values.
Jim LoPresti was a high school math teacher for 34 years. He ran bereavement groups with Dorothea Hays for about 10 years and then on his own for about 3 years. He had a small counseling practice for several years as well. He has served as the director of Ethical Friends of Children for more than 20 years and was President of EHSLI for 2 years.
