•Shem is the eldest son of Noah.
•Shem is highlighted as the ancestor of all the children of Eber, bringing the line from Shem to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
•Eber was the great grandson of Shem and is a crucial ancestor in biblical genealogy, representing the root of the "Hebrew" people.
• Eber's name means "Crossing Over"
•Hebrew means "Those Who Cross Over".
•The term "Semite" comes from Shem.
•In the Greek and Latin versions of the Bible,
"Shem" becomes "Sem".
So you get an idea of why the Jewish people are called "Semites" and why those who hate the Jewish people are called Anti-Semites.
